Letting things drag on like this isn't fair to Susie. It's better for Mack to set her free.

"What are you suggesting, sis? Do you want me to break up with Susie?" Mack asked, clearly bewildered.

I paused for a moment. "Yes, that's exactly what I'm suggesting. Take some time for yourself. Then you'll know who you truly want and love."

Mack glanced over at Susie, who was nearby. "She's... she's really attached to me. If I don't text her for a day or text less, she overthinks everything."

It's true, girls in love wish to be present in their partner's world every moment of every day. It shows just how deeply Susie has fallen for Mack.

"That's precisely why I'm advising you to do this," I clarified.

Mack lowered his head, silent. I watched him closely. "Are you reluctant to let go? Or have you simply grown accustomed to having her in your daily life?"

"Sis, can I have some time to think about it?" he asked, echoing his usual request.

"How long?" I didn't want this to drag on unnecessarily.

"As soon as possible," was all he could offer.

I considered for a moment. "One week. In a week, if you're sure you like her, confess to her, and officially be together. She's gotten into Harvard, and you can support her as her boyfriend. If you don't like her, be honest with her."

Mack nodded. "Maybe I won't need that long."

"That's for the best." The longer he drags this out, the worse it is for Susie.

When Phipps arrived, Mack and I had been talking for quite a while. He looked at me, "If there's nothing else, we should go."

Mack readily agreed, "Susie has been talking about you all non-stop. Now that we're finally meeting, let's have dinner together."

"Come on, bro, have dinner with me," Susie pleaded, wrapping her arm around Phipps.

With three of us agreeing, Phipps reluctantly conceded.

We chose a restaurant near a preschool, leaving just Phipps and me alone in the private dining room as Susie and Mack went to order.

"Looks like I owe you a bonus for keeping Susie from suspecting anything," I joked, with a hint of deeper meaning.

"Sure," Phipps replied, surprisingly composed.
