"I can't bear to do that. Can't bring myself to hurt you, so I'll just leave you here to torture yourself," Dustin said, twisting the knife with his words.

Recalling what he'd just said, I let out a faint, sarcastic smile. "Well, you might be mistaken. You just said it yourself, I have no conscience, I'm a piece of work. I tossed aside a ten-year relationship without a second thought, so what's a friend to me?"

I painted myself as cold-hearted because Dustin was only targeting Fanny because he knew I cared about her.

If I could make Dustin believe I didn't care, maybe he'd leave Fanny alone.

"Dustin chuckled, "Felicia, don't think that by saying this, I'll let your friend go. I've known you too well for too long to fall for that."

The bastard wasn't buying it.

I cursed under my breath and looked over at Ernest. Maybe I could count on him now, but the way he looked at me was unfamiliar, like he wasn't my Ernest at all.

Dustin gave Ernest a nod, and he led Fanny onto the helicopter. Dustin climbed aboard next, and as the helicopter lifted off, he gave a nonchalant wave to everyone below, as if bidding farewell to old friends.
