I glanced at the man beside me. He was awake too, looking at me with a gentle smile.

"Dr. Willis, take a few days off and you forget everything, huh?" I teased, hinting that as an obstetrician, he should remember the basics.

Fanny burst into laughter from the other end. "Licia, your mind is in the gutter! I only mentioned 'a tender embrace,' and you took it somewhere else."

I just rolled my eyes.

"So, how are you? Any injuries?" I asked, concerned.

Even though Ernest assured me that Fanny hadn't been harmed in the slightest, I needed to hear it from her.

"Didn't Ernest tell you already? Or did you not give him a chance before you pounced?" Fanny chuckled, knowing me all too well.

Between a man and my best friend, I'd always choose the latter.

"I want to hear it from you," I insisted, realizing only then that she hadn't called me on video.

"Fine, I'll video call you. I was cautious to avoid a live show of something I shouldn't see," Fanny joked.

"Cut it out, just call me. I need to see you," I said before hanging up to wait for her video call.

Ernest asked if I wanted some water and went to get it when I nodded. Just then, Fanny's video call came through.

"Where's your Ernest?" she asked right off the bat.

"Getting me water. What, are you missing him after spending these days together?" I teased back.

"Honestly, Ernest is quite the catch. If he stayed longer, I might find it hard to resist," Fanny admitted, not worried about my reaction.

I wasn't worried either. I knew her too well, and Ernest had already explained how he took care of her these past few days, hoping for leniency on my part.

I proudly tossed my hair. "Of course, the men I choose are always top-notch."

"Love your confidence," Fanny laughed, lounging on a sofa, wrapped in a cozy fleece blanket, looking healthy and happy.

"Really?" Fanny seemed skeptical. "He had his reasons for taking me. Don't be mad at him."

Hearing her vouch for him eased my concerns.

"Felicia, Ernest risked everything to dismantle a major international crime syndicate, saving countless lives," Fanny praised.

Truly, a man with a big heart.

"You're amazing too, and so is Sinclair," I added, pausing before continuing. "Fanny, your uncle really cares about you."

"He’s my uncle, of course he cares," Fanny deflected.

I knew she understood what I meant. "His care goes beyond family ties, it's more like..."

Before I could finish, the call dropped.
