Lenora glanced at him. “Did you go to Capston Island too?”

For a fleeting moment, she even wondered if Elijah had taken her wallet. It wasn’t about being paranoid; it just seemed like too much of a coincidence.

“Yeah, I went yesterday.”

“I see. Well, thank you then.”

They had just gone there today.

It might have just been a coincidence.

“You’re welcome. When you meet a fellow countryman abroad, you help where you can.” Elijah handed over her wallet.

Lenora took the wallet and looked up at Elijah. “If you hadn’t arrived just in time, I would have already booked a flight to Olswick by now. How about I treat you to a meal tomorrow? If your friend doesn’t mind. he can come along too.”

Elijah raised an eyebrow. “I’ll ask my friend and let you know.”

“Your friend seems rather strict, don’t you think? He behaves less like your friend and more like your spouse, always worried you’re going to flirt around,” Lenora said half–jokingly.

Upon hearing this, Elijah recalled Zachary’s gloomy face and let out a chuckle. “He’s much more high maintenance than a girlfriend. You’ll see when you meet him.”

Lenora closed the door and leaned her back against it. She stared at the wallet in her hand, lost deep in thought.

Was it really just a coincidence?

Elijah headed straight to Zachary’s room and plopped down on the couch. “I’ve returned her wallet.”

Zachary, seated on the single–seater couch, responded with a hum

He rested his elbows on his knees, a cigarette pack and lighter held in his hands.

Elijah also took out a cigarette, lighting it up using Zachary’s lighter.

He recalled that when they had just apprehended the thief. Zachary had stepped forward without a word. and thrown a few punches.

Elijah could even hear the thief’s ribs cracking.

Zachary placed the lighter on the table, drawing a deep puff of his cigarette. He held the filter between his index and middle finger before moving it away. His lips parted slightly, releasing a cascade of smoke that twirled upward before finally disappearing into nothingness.

He found his thoughts drifting back to Lenora’s words that had pierced his heart. I have no intention of remarrying you.

He even felt that the chill of Nardor in December was warmer than the icy coldness of her words.

After a few seconds, Zachary asked, “What did she say?”

“She said she’s treating me to a meal tomorrow.”

Elijah knew what Zachary was about to say, so he beat him to it. “Since I did her a big favor, she insists on, treating me to a meal. If you don’t agree, she’ll come and talk to you personally.”

The words Zachary was about to say caught on his lips as he took a brooding drag from his cigarette.

Elijah looked at Zachary with a playful expression. “So, what do you say? You must agree this time, right?”

Zachary’s expression darkened as he tapped off some ash from his cigarette. “Tell her you’re choosing the restaurant. She won’t say no.”

“Okay.”

They had planned to go whale watching at sea the next day. Sophia had already booked a spot in a large whale–watching group. They were set to depart around eight in the morning, and the trip was expected to last between six to nine hours.

At half past seven the next morning, Lenora, Sophia, and Fiona arrived at the designated dock.

At that moment, a considerable number of people were already waiting at the dock. It was evident they were part of a group set to embark on a whale–watching sea excursion. Among them were quite a few Aplothians. 

The boarding process began at seven forty, and by the time they set sail at eight o’clock, there were over thirty people on their boat.

On the boat, there was a small lounge, already occupied by about a dozen people.

Watching whales, much like witnessing the northern lights, was a matter of luck.

The whale–watching tour included lunch, and the meal was indeed plentiful. Unfortunately, the tourists. ate with little enthusiasm, a hint of regret lingering in their hearts.

Just then, the tour guide, megaphone in hand, said, “Look toward the southeast!”

As he spoke, the catamaran headed in that direction.

Lenora looked over and happened to see a massive creature leaping powerfully from the water. It traced a graceful arc in mid–air before diving back into the sea, causing waves to splash all around.

“Wow!”

Everyone gasped in awe.

Lenora was so sturned that she forgot to take a picture with her phone. It wasn’t until Sophia reminded her that she snapped back to reality.

Previously, she had only seen pictures of whales in books and was aware that they were the largest animals in the world.

But for her, that was merely a concept.

It wasn’t until she saw the enormity of the whale with her own eyes that she realized the sense of awe it inspired was far beyond what any photograph could capture.

The tour guide exclaimed, “You guys are really lucky! There are even a few baby whales next to it. Did you see them?”

He also introduced them to the different types of whales.

The tourists didn’t even have the time to respond. They were all frantically taking pictures.

The catamaran gradually approached the pod of whales

The pod of whales might have already grown accustomed to their presence, showing no signs of alarm. The last one, a baby whale lagging behind, was closest to them. When it breached, Lenora even felt droplets of water splashing onto her face.

The catamaran stayed near the pod of whales for a while, and by the time it reached the shore, it was already five in the afternoon.

Lenora, Sophia, and Fiona disembarked one after the other.

Lenora said. “You guys go ahead. I’ve made plans with Elijah.”
