Jonas glanced at Lenora with affection. “She was my neighbor when we were kids. Always a crybaby.”
“Childhood sweethearts, huh? That’s sweet. Let me know if things get serious between you two.”
“Mr. Chance. Nora and 1 are just friends,” Jonas clarified
He knew he had to tread carefully since Lenora now hal a boyfriend.
“I get it, I get it. You young folks prefer calling yourselves just friends,” Avery added.
Zachary, seated nearby, cast a glance in their direction, his expression cool and distant. His brow furrowed slightly as he watched them together, and his thoughts grew heavy. I warned her to stay away from Jonas. Why won’t she listen? Is she really that taken with him?
“Zack.”
“Zack?”
“Yes? What did you say?” Zachary came back to his senses and looked at Susanna.
Susanna’s eyes darkened momentarily as she leaned in to whisper in Zachary’s ear. “Don’t you think Nora and Jonas make a good pair? If you two were to divorce, it’ll be nice to see if she ends up with Jonas.”
Zachary shook his head without hesitation. “No. They’re not right for each other.”
“What makes you say so?”
“I can tell from the way they work and their personalities.”
Watching Zachary and Susanna whispering so closely, Lenora felt a tinge of bitterness in her chest. She lowered her gaze, trying to hide the emotions swirling inside her.
Soon, the waiter began serving dish after dish, quickly filling the table.
Everyone relaxed, dropping formalities, and started eating.
Jonas first added a piece of beignet to Lenora’s plate. “Try this.”
“Thank you.”
Taking a bite, Lenora found it delightfully crunchy, with a hint of caramel flavor. “Not bad.”
After finishing the beignet, she finally reached for her fork..
Jonas kept an attentive eye on Leñora, occasionally placing food on her plate.
Meanwhile, Zachary observed their interaction, his expression growing darker by the moment.
“Zack, could you help me with that? I can’t quite reach it.” Susanna said, a flicker of shadow passing through her gaze.

Chapter 88 Keep Quiet
It was the second time she’d caught him lost in thought
“Sure,” Zachary replied without hesitation. “Just let me know if you need more.”
He kept up his attentiveness toward Susanna, refilling her plate whenever she finished a dish.
Watching his considerate gestures, Lenora let out a quiet, self–deprecating laugh.

Halfway through the meal, Lenora excused herself, saying she needed a quick trip to the restroom.
The men’s and women’s restrooms were side by side, with a shared hand–washing station between them. The space was divided into wet and dry areas, offering an organized flow for guests.
After using the restroom, Lenora stepped out, washed her hands, and quickly touched up her makeup in front of the mirror.
Just as she slipped her cushion foundation back into her bag, Zachary entered from the hallway. He quietly approached, standing behind her. Without a word, he stretched his arms forward, resting them on the sink counter, trapping her in the narrow space between his arms.
Startled, Lenora looked at his reflection in the mirror. “What are you doing?”
I want to talk to you.”
Lenora wasn’t in the mood to engage. “I’m going back now.”
Before she could take a step, Zachary bent down and captured her lips in a sudden, possessive kiss. His large hand wrapped firmly around her waist, pulling her against the washbasin as their mouths fused, tongues tangling in a heated exchange.
He didn’t even know why he was doing this.
He had come intending to see Susanna, but his eyes had been drawn to Lenora the entire night.
Seeing her and Jonas so close together had stirred a restless frustration inside him as if thousands of ants were crawling beneath his skin.
Perhaps it was because she had brushed off his warning about Jonas. That disregard gnawed at him, leaving him more upset than he wanted to admit.
Lenora pressed against his chest, trying to push him away. “Stop it. I need to go back.”
Zachary’s brows furrowed, and instead of letting go, his grip around her tightened. One hand slid to cradle the back of her head, and he kissed her even deeper, his tongue exploring her mouth with deliberate intensity.
By the time he finally let her go, Lenora was breathless, her lips red and swollen.
She shot him an irritated glare, turning toward the mirror to check her reflection. The evidence of his kiss was undeniable–her lips looked nothing like before.
Zachary chuckled, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. His chin rested against her temple as he admired their reflection. With a teasing grin, he tapped her lips lightly with his finger. “You look good
like this too.”

“Go back? Go back and play lovey–dovey with Jonas?” Zachary’s voice was low, edged with irritation. “Lenora, I’ve warned you before. You two aren’t a good match.”
Lenora knitted her brows, What lovey–dovey?
The housekeeper had told him she would come to see Jonas. He’d planned to fetch her himself; Susanna’s call had just given him the perfect excuse.
His other hand trailed down her body, his fingers caressing her through the thin fabric of her dress.
The tips of her fingers brushed against the warmth of his skin and then encountered something damp.
He tilted his head, amused by her flustered state. “Shush.”
Lenora sagged against the door, her legs weak and unsteady. She took a deep breath, trying to collect herself, and finally pushed the door open, stepping out of the stall.
“I’m fine. I was just feeling a little unwell earlier.”
