After about two minutes, the maid relayed a message to Zachary with a sense of resignation. “Mr. Fuller, Mrs. Fuller has declined to answer.”

Zachary fell silent for a moment, then murmured, “If she doesn’t want to, then fine.”

Before long, Susanna woke up.

The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Zachary by her bedside, a comforting smile gracing his face.

She extended her hand towards Zachary, and he rose to grasp it in return. “How do you feel?” he asked.

“It hurts a lot,” Susanna said weakly.
