Sunny's birthday party was just a few days away.

She had warned me beforehand. She knew that both Amelia and Jay would be there, as representatives of their respective corporations. She told me to be careful.

Sunny introduced me as her business partner and friend. Amelia, on the other hand, used to avoid introducing me at social gatherings. She would even bring her own male companions, often her own friends, as her dates, implying that I was not worthy enough to be seen with her.

I had just separated from a group of guests when I noticed Amelia standing in front of me, blocking my path.

"Ms. Sunny, thank you for taking care of my husband," she said, a thinly veiled attempt at being charming.

Sunny's brow furrowed slightly. "I believe Ms. Amelia and Mr. Casey are divorced."

Sunny wasn't afraid to call her out, and Amelia was momentarily caught off guard. "Casey is just being difficult," she stammered.

I chuckled. "Difficult? It's understandable, isn't it? After all, I just lost my son. It's not like I can just forget about it."

"Do you have something else you need, Ms. Amelia?" Sunny asked, her voice turning colder.

Amelia bit her lip, her eyes filled with a mix of longing and regret. She gestured behind her, and Lisa hurried forward, placing a book in her hand.

"This is a piece of land I bought for Aiden. It's a rare, sacred piece of land. You like it?"

I didn't bother looking at it. "Aiden is dead, Amelia. Why are you still trying to use him?"

"Amelia, you don't have to be so pathetic. No matter how hard you try, it's over between us. I'm never going back to you."

But Amelia didn't seem to care. She was determined to keep up her facade. "I know you're still angry, so I'm not going to force it. But Casey, I still love you. I've rented all the LED billboards across the city. I'm going to tell the world that you're my man. I'm going to make things up to you for everything."

"This is something no one else can give you!" she said, her voice gaining strength.

"I'm telling you, Amelia and I are meant to be together. We'll fight to the death, and in the end, I will win!"

"You should be grateful for her. I'll bet she's slipped a few love potions into your drinks. She's crazy for you, but you're just a stupid fool."

"You think I care about her anymore? I don't! But I'm going to make you pay for what you did to me. I'm going to take advantage of you. I'm going to ruin your life, and then, I'm going to make Amelia watch as you become a pathetic loser. Then, she will be begging for me."

He was right, I thought to myself. I didn't care about Amelia anymore. I had moved on.

He led me to a private room, and as he spoke, I saw a dark, dangerous glint in his eyes. His face, filled with malice and jealousy, looked utterly unfamiliar. He was no longer the charming, playful young man I had known.

I knew he had something sinister planned. He would drag me down with him, and Amelia would be watching. I was trapped, a pawn in his game.

The door creaked open.
