"Selena, how about we take a shower?" I asked, holding the clothes out to her.
I expected her to comply, but to my surprise, she rejected my suggestion without a second thought. "I don't want to take a shower. I don't like showers."
I remembered she used to enjoy bathing, so why the sudden change?
I had promised Zion I would do this, and for both personal and practical reasons, I needed to follow through. After a lot of coaxing, I finally convinced her. She relaxed and grabbed my arm, smiling at me. "If we're going to shower, I want to take a couple's bath with you."
I was taken aback by her words. A couple's bath was indeed something couples did, and it could be fun and enhance intimacy, but I was already with Sylvia. What would it mean for me to bathe with Selena?
I frowned, wanting to refuse, but it seemed she sensed my hesitation and became upset.
"Why are you hesitating, Hud? Do you not want to take a couple's bath with me? Is it because I don't look good anymore? Do you not like me? Is that why you don't want to bathe with me?" she questioned.
I wanted to refuse her request, but remembering her bipolar disorder made me hesitate even more. As I watched her expression change, I quickly reassured her, "No, it's not that. I just haven't gotten the clothes yet. Can I go get them first?"
Hearing this, she smiled, turned, and rang the bell by the bed.
The bell chimed, and the door opened. A staff member walked in, glanced at me, and then turned to Selena with a friendly expression.
"Ms. Norman, is there something you need?"
"Women should be a bit more careful," I said, gently pushing her hands away from me.
Even though she and I had been intimate before, our marriage was in shambles now, and I had a girlfriend. Morally, I couldn't let anything else happen between us.
She grew angry and turned away, not wanting to speak to me.
Without her teasing, I breathed a sigh of relief. I needed to keep my composure. I was just there to help Selena take a shower. Once it was over, that would be that. I didn't need to involve myself in anything else.
I lifted my gaze to look at Selena, but I didn't expect an even bigger surprise to be waiting for me.
