Chapter 18 

After leaving the restaurant, Clara didn’t go straight home. Instead, she went to see Selina. 

When Selina saw Clara show up alone, a flicker of surprise crossed her face. “Where’s Durnon?” 

“He had something to take care of after you lett. Since I’ll be starting at the company in a couple of days, I figured I’d come by and check it out first,”

Selina didn’t think much of it. She had just wrapped up her work, so she happily showed Clara around the office. After work, the two of them grabbed dinner together, and only then did Clara head back to her apartment. 

Once she was home, she checked her phone and saw that Damon had sent her a follow request on Instagram. Suddenly, his words from earlier came back to her. 

“Since you’ve made up your mind about the divorce, I’ll respect that, I don’t deserve your love. I let you down, and I’m sorry. But we’ve been married for three years, Can we still be friends after everything?” 

Friends? Why would Clara stay friends with Damon? 

She couldn’t think of a reason for it. She thought they’d just part on good terms and leave it at that. So, she didn’t accept his follow request right away. Clara was just about to call it a night at 10:00 pm when she noticed another follow request from Damon, this time with a message. “There are a few clauses in the divorce agreement 1 need to go over.”

Damon’s reply came almost immediately as though he knew she’d say that. “I low you didn’t marry me for money. I’m not changing the contract to make it up to you. This is just what the law says. It’s what you’re entitled to, so don’t overthink it.”

Selina nodded. She thought for a second before deciding to be upfront. “After our last gathering, Damon got in touch and asked to meet with me alone. That’s when we set things in motion for this project. He told me a bit about what happened between you two. 

“Since it’s personal, I never brought it up. But now that we’re at a critical stage, I need your help to make sure everything goes smoothly. I know this might feel a little intrusive, but I hope you’ll understand.”
