"You!" He laughed.
"No, I'm a man." I rolled my eyes and scooted closer to him.
"Never have I ever killed someone." He flinched and looked at me.
Putting down a finger, he finally spoke. "Does that bother you?" I thought about my answer and realized something.
"Not as much as it should." He leaned in and kissed my forehead.
"Never have I ever gone skinny dipping." My eyes widened.
"You've never gone skinny dipping." He shook his head and kept the rest of his fingers up. He looked over towards the water and smirked.
"There's a first time for everything." And with that, he jumped up and pulled his shirt off. "Come on!" I looked around and stood up on my feet. I tore my shirt off then my pants. I knew the water was going to be cold so I kept my undergarments on. "Nope. That's not skinny dipping." I looked down at my bare legs and smiled. The scars were still gone. Zane grinned too and walked over to me. "They're still there. In your heart." I nodded and pulled the rest of my clothes off. Zane went to take his pants off then looked at me. My face heated up. "I can-"
I surprised myself when I cut him off. "No. That's not skinny dipping now is it?" I smirked. His eyes widened and he took the rest of his clothes off. I tried my best to keep my gaze lifted but I couldn't help it. "That's what it looks like!?" He cracked up and for the first time he didn't hold back. He completely let loose. I grinned at this and watched as he composed himself.
"Devina, there's something I need to tell you." My heart dropped and I leaned away a little. He closed his beautiful green eyes then opened them back. "The moment I saw you, I knew things would be changed forever. When I drove you home that night, it took all my strength not to turn the damn car around and take you back home. To our home. And when I had to drop you off and leave you," He swallowed and continued. "It was torture. Then you called me and even though the circumstances were bad, I was so happy that you decided to call me. Out of all the people you could have, you called me. Then you almost died in my arms, a few times, and it made me realize that I can't lose you. It's not only that I don't want to lose you, it's that I can't. I wouldn't survive without you and I'm honestly not sure how I managed all these years without you. I would be glad if I just knew you. But I not only get to know you, I get to see your beautiful face every day and hear that beautiful giggle of yours. I get to hold you and share things with you I thought I'd never, like my feelings." He laughed and a tear fell down both of our cheeks like they were longing to be together. "I know I'm not perfect, and I know I do some really fucking stupid things but, Devina Ross Stavros, I love you. I love you so much. I always have and always will. I can't promise you forever because you're so stubborn, but I can promise you now. I love you." He leaned in to kiss me but I moved back, making him frown. "Sorry, I- you don't have to say anything back. That's not what I-" He trailed off and looked away, getting ready to put me down.
"I-I um," I swallowed and looked away.
"It's okay, you don't have to say it back. There's no pressure." I swallowed again and scrunched up my nose.
"I'm going to throw up." His eyes widened as he pulled both of us to the dock. I hoisted myself up and ran into the trees a little, emptying my already empty stomach. God this is so romantic. Zane quickly approached me and held my hair back. After a few minutes, I fell to the ground and closed my eyes. "I'm s-" Before I could even say anything, darkness took over and I passed out. Cold. Well isn't this romantic.
