"When I first took over Joplin Group, I was facing an even bigger mess. Why didn't anyone help me back then?"

It wasn't like I hadn't asked Henry for help back then.

"Do you still remember what you said? You said since I got to that position, I should abide by the rules," I said, shoving the documents back in his arms.

If he weren't my father, I would've kicked him out by now.

"Don't make me look down on you."

After gathering all the documents from the floor, Henry contemplated for a while and said, "Wait. I don't care whether you're going to help your brother or not, but don't drag me into this."

I was slightly surprised. This didn't sound like him.

"So, I don't want you interfering with my relationship with your mom," he continued.

Well, it turned out that he was just trying to ambush me.

I sneered, "What if I insist?"

Grabbing his shoulders to force him to maintain his composure, I continued, "You said it yourself—she's my mom. I can't let her suffer."

My last sentence somehow riled Henry up. He suddenly shoved me away and bellowed, "Did you think I don't know why you're helping your mom? You're only doing it for your inheritance! You didn't even bother to visit her back then, yet here you are, trying to act like a loyal son!"

Breathing heavily, he still felt as though he hadn't vented enough. He jutted a finger at me and continued yelling, "Listen, I'll never give you your inheritance! She'll have to leave with nothing if she wants a divorce."

Henry's intentions were clear; he didn't want to give Mom a single penny.

Henry jerked his head aside, determined to ignore me. Yet he couldn't help but feel intrigued. He eventually turned back and stared at me with a bewildered expression. "Why?"

"I'm a selfish person. When I think about you spending my and my mom's money on your mistress, I'm furious. Rather than let you spend it on someone else, I should just snatch it away from you. Besides…" I trailed off, leaning into his ear. "It amuses me to see how flustered you've become."

It was almost a whisper, but I was certain that Henry heard it. He was about to slap me across my face.

I grabbed his wrist, not giving him a chance to budge. "Careful. You don't want to injure your waist."

"You're a fucking animal! Do you even have the slightest sense of conscience? You're literally a devil!" he cried out, almost choking with tears. "Oh, goodness gracious! Look at how vicious my son is. He doesn't even spare his own father!"

His yelling attracted a lot of attention. Finally, Mom could no longer bear it and dashed out of the door.
