Chapter 183
Back in her room, Jessica felt herself sinking into an uncontrollable gloom.
She knew this wasn’t healthy, but she just couldn’t help it.”

‘Brian, Jacob,‘ she thought bitterly, ‘after all the contempt you showed me and forcing me to leave, why are you trying to come back into my life now? Why can’t you just leave me alone?‘
Jessica tossed and turned for most of the night, unable to fall asleep. Clutching her aching belly, she knew she couldn’t keep going on like this.
Fortunately, she had her appointment with Wesley tomorrow.
‘Just one more night,‘ Jessica told herself, steeling her resolve.
Jessica kept trying to numb herself, playing some soothing music in the background. Eventually, exhaustion took over and she drifted off to sleep.
At the crack of dawn the next day, her eyes flew open.
She was exhausted yet wide awake, unable to fall asleep again.
Jessica let out a weary sigh, rolled over, and forced herself to sit up. Then she got out of bed to wash up.
“Jessi, why are you up so early today?” Stella called out.

Downstairs, Stella, busy preparing breakfast, was surprised to see her daughter coming down. Jessica used to stay asleep until at least half an hour later.
As Stella drew closer and noticed the pronounced dark circles beneath Jessica’s eyes, her concern deepened.
“Didn’t sleep well last night?” Stella asked with concern.
Reaching for her hand, Stella asked tentatively, “Is it about tomorrow’s court hearing? If you’re having second thoughts-”
“I’ll never regret it!” Jessica cut in resolutely before Stella could say a word.
Regardless of whether the recent changes in Brian and Jacob were genuine or not, she would never look back.
“I’m getting this divorce no matter what!” Jessica declared firmly.
There was no going back to how things were between them.
“Alright, alright, divorce it is then. Don’t get so worked up, honey. I was just throwing it out there. Your wishes come first, of course,” Mom said.
Seeing Jessica’s agitation, Stella quickly soothed her.
“Jessi, if there’s anything bothering you, you can always talk to me,” Stella said gently. “Don’t keep it all bottled up inside. It hurts me to see you like this.”
Stella was genuinely concerned about her daughter’s mental state.
Jessica also sensed her mood was off. Taking a deep breath, she said, “Don’t worry, Mom. I’ve already scheduled an appointment with a therapist. I’m taking care of myself.”
While speaking, she gently touched her belly.

‘Even if I don’t care about myself, I must think of the baby I’m carrying, Jessica reminded herself.
Since she had decided to keep the baby, she must take full responsibility.

“Glad to hear that. Let’s not dwell on this. Come eat. I made some food; see if you like it,” Stella said.

Jessica looked at the bowl in front of her, picked up the spoon, and took a taste. She found it rather bland. Still, not wanting to worry Stella, she forced herself to finish every last drop.
Jessica managed a smile. “It’s nice, Mom. I like it. Thank you.”
With a strained smile, Jessica grabbed her bag, said goodbye to her parents, and headed out–not to the office, but straight to Wesley’s clinic.
“You’re here so early today.”
At 9 a.m., Wesley arrived for work as usual, only to find Jessica already waiting in the lobby. His brows furrowed slightly.
Jessica stood up politely and said, “Nothing urgent, I just came a bit early. Hope I’m not interrupting you.”
Wesley gave her a long, assessing look and said, “Come with me.”
Jessica followed Wesley into the consulting room. The moment she sat down, Wesley asked, “Has anything unusual happened recently?”
Jessica shook her head. “No, not really. Why do you ask?”
Wesley said softly, “Your condition isn’t right. After our last session, I expected you to be on the mend, but now I see clear signs of rapid–and even alarming–deterioration.”
