[Old Bennet Residence]
"Grandpa! Please! Don’t do this to me!" Sven begged on his knees, hugging his grandfather’s leg while the old man sat in the wing chair. He shook his head, tears welling in his eyes. "Grandpa, I’ve done many things for you! I swear it’s not me! Atlas and Penny did this to me on purpose!"
Chairman Bennet’s face soured as he gazed down at his grandchild, who wept at his feet like a clown. "You good-for-nothing bastard!" he roared, lifting his cane to push Sven away. "Don’t you have any dignity left?! How can you beg like this as a man, huh?!"
"Grandpa!" Sven was pushed aside, but he quickly crawled back to the chairman. However, this time, Chairman Bennet launched a kick at his chest.
Sven’s breath hitched, his heart stopping for a moment from the impact. After a second, he coughed, his hand pressed against his chest.
"You... idiot!" Chairman Bennet huffed, getting up from his seat. He raised his cane and violently swung it down at Sven, who was such a disgrace to the Bennet family.
"Aw — Grandpa!" Sven squealed, blocking his head and curling into a ball on the ground to protect himself. "Grandpa — ouch! Aw! Ah!"
Yet Chairman Bennet continued to cane him out of frustration. If not for his age, he would have continued until he felt appeased. But alas, he was already too old to go on.
Gazing down at Sven, his wrinkled face twisted in disgust. "You loser of a child! Did you know how much we could have lost if not for Atlas, huh?!"
"Grandpa! I told you! I am being framed!" Sven exclaimed, quickly dropping to his knees again to face his grandfather. "Atlas and Penny were both in on it! They sent me this negotiation letter just to make a fool out of me! It was their plan all along so Atlas would get all the glory! They also planned to cut off Ito Motors! My only fault here is that I fell for their wicked trap!"
"You little!" Chairman Bennet raised his cane to hit him again but stopped when Sven covered his head with his arms. He huffed and clenched his teeth, shaking his head in disappointment.
All these years, Chairman Bennet had taken care of Sven and Sofia just to spite Charles. He wanted to show Charles that his son’s ways weren’t as effective as the Bennet rules. This was mainly the reason Chairman Bennet had taken extra care of Sven; he thought if he favored this young man, the next head of the Bennet family would be the person Chairman Bennet raised.
The reality was different.
Atlas and Penny... no, all of Charles’s children turned out to be successful individuals. Atlas and Hugo were already given accolades for their excellence as kids. Slater, on the other hand, might not be as smart as Atlas or as athletic as Hugo, but he still excelled in his chosen career. Even though Slater’s career was "just" in music, he still excelled.
Now, just when everyone thought the only failure was Charles’s daughter, they were mistaken.
"That kid ended up becoming just as successful as her brothers — perhaps even better," Chairman Bennet fumed as he approached his desk, picking up a thin can that held his cigars. "But this kid..."
He then looked back at the pathetic Sven, overwhelmed by the desire to beat this young man to a pulp. If he were in his prime, Sven wouldn’t even have had the strength to get back on his knees to beg.
