Fudd family home.

After Old Master Fudd picked Little Jelly Bean up from kindergarten, he went ahead to tend to his elegant orchids that was planted in the courtyard.

Madam Leah reported, “Master, Miss Heidy is here.”

“Lain?”

“Yes.”

Lain noticed that the old man was tending to his orchids when she entered the courtyard. She greeted him with a smile, “Uncle.”

John looked at her with a gentle smile and said, “How are you so free to visit me today?”

“I remembered you having some cold related ailment on your leg so I had some of my friends who studied Chinese Medicine invent a formula. It’s quite effective to treat cold related ailments.”

“Really? Thank you so much then. Not even Heaton has this in mind but you do.”

Lain handed the herbs to Madam Leah then said to John, “It’s only natural for us youngsters to respect our elders. Heaton is busy with work and besides, he’s a man and if he spends all his time nagging at you about the little things, you’d think he’s annoying too.”

John held onto his walking stick while speaking with a smile. “It’s cold outside, let’s talk inside. Madam Leah, serve up some hot tea for Lain.”

“Alright, master.”

John started talking to Lain on the couch after they entered the house.

Lain glanced around the mansion and did not notice anyone else beside John in the house.

John asked, “How’s work lately?”

“Nothing much. The clinic’s business is still not bad but my dad kept thinking that me being a psychologist will have no future. He kept wanting me to return home to help tend to the family’s business.”

John nodded and said, “You’re quite the capable woman and you should return home to help your father. You father is a few years younger than me and he should be enjoying his golden years now. Aren’t you planning on bringing a boyfriend home for your father?”

Lain smiled slightly helplessly and said, “It’s not like you don’t know how I feel, uncle.”

John said with a sigh, “I actually thought that you and Heaton would end up together back then since the both of you knew each other since childhood and were classmates for so many years. You both knew each other’s likes and dislikes. You are a smart person and would have been able to help Heaton in his future career. However, I never expected another woman would appear and although I wasn’t that fond of Verian initially, I can feel that this woman is special to Heaton. I used to always force Heaton to get a partner sooner, to start a family but after nagging at him for so many years, all my attempts turned out to be futile, until Verian appeared and Heaton said he wanted to marry that woman. I have never seen him so determined to marry anyone before. Oh Lain, you should move on now. If you don’t, you’d end up hurting yourself.”

Lain replied with a bitter laugh, “Uncle, relationships aren’t all that easy. I can’t just stop loving someone on a whim. However, although I’m not mentally prepared to accept anyone new, I’ve long since given up on Heaton. He's been my classmate for so many years and I knew that ever since the beginning, he had no intentions on being with me.”

John nodded and said, “It is good that you think this way.”

“However…” Lain looked up at the old man. She bit her lips and mumbled slightly nervously, “Is Heaton… well with Verian recently?”

The tone of Lain’s question was way too obvious, so it was only natural for the old man to catch onto how abnormally cold that sounded. He asked with a slight frown, “What do you mean?”

“Uncle, could you have not known about it?”

“Known what? What exactly are you talking about, Lain?” The old man frowned deeper as he stared at Lain with a puzzled look.

Lain spoke with a serious look, “How could Heaton keep something this serious from you? Uncle… This is quite a serious matter. Uncle James had me check up on a DNA report for him previously. I wasn’t quite bothered by it at first but after the tests were run, this DNA report stated that Uncle James and Verian are related by blood… they’re father and daughter.”

Old Master Fudd’s expression dimmed as he said, “What did you say?”

“Uncle James always wanted me to keep this secret for him. However, I thought Heaton and the others had already told you about this once they knew. So I… don’t ever tell them, okay. I’m worried that Uncle James and Heaton would blame me.”
