Vera then turned around and ran into the kitchen.

After Quill was done talking to Ernest, he turned back and found that Vera had already run into the kitchen, leaving Mabie standing there alone.

Vera stayed in the kitchen for a long time, and Mabie went in.

"Mom, have they left?"

"They've left. Why didn't you stay out there if you're that curious about it?"
