As one with extensive experience, Adam could gauge what happened from the disdain toward Brad in Nadine's eyes. Nadine was such a dear. She couldn't possibly be at fault. It had to be Brad's fault!

Adam wondered why Daniel had such a son. If he had known earlier, he would've made Daniel shoot his load on the wall instead.

Brad's appearance made Nadine uneasy. She retreated behind Adam and excused herself.

"Grandpa, I have to work now. Get some rest. I'll come back later once I'm done."

Without waiting for his response, she pivoted and left. She couldn't bear to face Brad, nor did she want to. Avoiding him was the best solution she could manage.

As she left in haste, Adam didn't even have the chance to stop her. He could only watch her disappear out of her sight. Now that the granddaughter-in-law he'd doted on left, he was left alone with his grandson.

Annoyed, Adam smacked Brad's arm and hollered, "You useless brat! You can't even make your wife stay. Get out of here! Leave! I don't want to see you!"

Sometimes, he really wondered whether Brad was his real grandson. How could someone with such a bad temper still survive? If he were Daniel, he would've beaten Brad 800 times a day.

Adam intended to kick Brad out of his ward so that he could go after Nadine, but Brad didn't catch on to his intention at all.

Not only did he not leave, he even sidled up to Adam. Looking nonchalant, he glanced at Adam and drawled, "Grandpa, can you stop fussing over everything? Worry too much and you might end up dying young like Grandma!"

In fact, Brad doubted whether Adam was his grandpa. Why did Adam keep siding with Nadine? She probably was his kin, and Brad was just adopted.

Adam itched to hang Brad up and give him a good beating. He was incredulously obtuse! His expression darkened in rage and he began hacking violently.

"Get lost, Brad! Get out of here this instant. I don't want to see you! Fuck off!"

Despite being in a heated room, the cold winter had stripped away its warmth.

Nadine immediately returned to the cardiology nurse's station after leaving Adam's ward. She grabbed a book and was soon immersed in it.

The exam was approaching, and she didn't want to lose her job. It was tough and exhausting, but she relished the feeling of being so engaged.

Her busy schedule allowed her to stop pondering her distraught relationship with Brad. She reveled in the feeling of being able to clear her mind.

During lunch break, she was so absorbed in her exam materials in the changing room that she'd long forgotten she hadn't had lunch.
