All Nadine could think about was how Brad had done this for Jean. Back then, he did far more than just place food on her plate—he practically treated Jean like a princess. So, this was nothing special.

Nadine accepted the gesture and ate in silence, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. In the end, she was stuffed, her lips a vibrant red, reminiscent of ripe cherries. Brad, on the other hand, had hardly touched his food, having been too busy tending to her throughout dinner.

He seemed happier than she was to see her enjoy the meal. He told the housekeeper in front of Nadine, "Next time, add more spice to the chili-crusted fish. It wasn't spicy enough for Nadine."

The housekeeper nodded and responded respectfully, "Understood."

"Don't bother. There won't be a next time," Nadine interjected, ruining the moment.

Then, she pushed her chair back and looked at Brad. "Dinner was delicious. Thank you, but I don't think this will happen again. It's getting late. I shouldn't impose on you any longer, Mr. Hamilton. I'll be on my way now." With that, she made her way upstairs.

Brad, who had been in a good mood just moments before, felt as though he'd been doused in ice-cold water. His heart sank as he realized even if he treated Nadine well, she wouldn't appreciate it.

Nadine wasn't as dramatic as Brad. Once she got to the second floor and noticed that Sean was still sound asleep, she draped a coat over him, scooped him up, and prepared to leave without a moment's hesitation.

As soon as she turned around, she found Brad standing at the doorway, his hand on the knob. When he noticed she was determined to leave, he hurriedly said, "It's freezing outside! Are you really going to take Sean out in this weather? What if he catches a cold?"
