The moment the words left her mouth, Nadine regretted them because she noticed Brad's eyes turn bloodshot. He extended his right hand, his eyes red as if something had taken over him, and he walked toward her.

Before she could even catch her breath, his cool hands gripped her throat. He didn't use much force, but his fingers tightened around her neck, his thumbs rubbing the base of her throat.

All of a sudden, he smiled at her, but it didn't reach his eyes. It was more like the bare-toothed snarl of a predator savoring its prey.

He didn't say a word to Nadine. Instead, his gaze landed on her slender neck. His fingers traced her throat, and his gaze grew colder by the second. The look in his eyes made her heart race with fear.

Nadine's skin prickled, goosebumps rising along her arms. She tried to step back, to put some distance between them, but she couldn't get away. His hands were like snakes coiled around their victim. No matter how she twisted or pulled away, she couldn't break free from his grasp.

Nadine wanted to take out her phone and call the police, but after fumbling around, she realized her phone and bag were in the car. Brad's eyes were filled with anger and malice. The look in them made her heart race. Panic bubbled up, and she tried to call for help. "Help—"

Her plea was cut off as his grip tightened on her throat, silencing her completely. Tears welled up in her eyes.

Noticing that she couldn't make a sound, Brad suddenly laughed. "I'm not worthy of being compared to Jack, huh? What about you? Have you ever considered my feelings when you used me as his replacement?

"And when you had that child—did you ever think about how I felt when you turned me into a fool? Don't think that just because we're divorced, you're off the hook!"

He yelled the last sentence. At that moment, he was like a wild beast, ready to tear everything around him apart.

Nadine was terrified by his behavior, standing frozen in place, unsure how to react. She was at a complete loss.
