Nathan was the one who picked up the phone.

“Mrs. Burton, Young Master Burton is still conversing with the professor. He should be done soon. May I know what’s the matter?”

Xavia immediately replied, “Oh, it’s nothing. The children are behaving very well and I’m doing fine too. I just wanted to know the progress.”

“That’s great. Mrs. Burton, get some rest if you’re tired. We’ll return as soon as possible.”

“Alright. Be careful on the way.”

The call was hung up.

Xavia was relieved. Since they had such a long discussion, they must be talking about the details and that meant that Zivon still had hope!

Little did she know that it was the complete opposite on the other end of the phone.

After Nathan hung up the call, he looked toward the noble man who was seated at the back of the car and quietly said, “Young Master Burton, Mrs. Burton just called to ask when we were going back. I’ve handled it.”

Zivon did not say anything. He took over the phone, extinguished the cigarette in his hand and exhaled some smoke from his mouth. He said, “Let’s go back.”

“Okay.” Nathan carefully started the engine and drove out of the basement that they had stayed in for two hours. They were having mixed feelings all over.

Young Master Burton and his professor had talked for two hours and discussed multiple alternatives which neither one could work while the underlying assumption was overturned.

In short, the professor was thinking too much about Young Master Burton, making some bold and beautiful hypothetical experiments while ignoring the reality of the problem.

In the midst of the negotiation, Young Master Burton not only had his hopes dashed, but also brutally analyzed and faced the condition of his legs, which he might never be able to stand up and walk ever again.

What people fear most was not disappointment on its own, but rather, the disappointment after experiencing hope.

So, Young Master Burton sat in the car for more than two hours and smoked an entire pack of cigarettes…

Once inside, Xavia ran over and gave him a big hug and kiss on the cheek.

“How did it go? Did it go well?”

Zivon looked at the girl in front of him. Her skin was fair and delicate, and her eyes were radiant and clean, making it difficult for him to refuse her.

His eyes dimmed down as he smiled faintly. “Yeah, it went well.”

“Really? Is there hope that the treatment or research can slowly begin?”

Xavia’s eyes lit up as she smiled brightly. “That’s wonderful! Congratulations! I’m happy for you!”

As she was too excited, Frank and Fabiola woke up and started crying.
