Richard scoffed, "Claire, get in the car. I need to talk with him."

Claude stepped out of his car and went toward us. I obediently sat back in the car and rolled up the window.

"Don't come any closer to Claire," Richard warned as Claude hastened his pace.

Claude sneered, "You think you can stop me, huh? I got you locked up once. And I can do it again."

Richard's smile didn't waver. Despite losing weight, he stood there, solid and unwavering, protecting me. "I didn't fight back last time because you claimed I wronged Claire. This time, I'll fight with everything I've got, even if it means dragging you down with me."

My heart ached listening to them, but I couldn't let my tears fall.

"Let me talk to her," Claude insisted, knocking on my window.

Richard grabbed him. "And what right do you have to talk to her?"

"She always wanted me to marry her. I'm willing to make it official now," Claude said.
