Yolanda looked up just in time to see the hospital sign above her head. "He needs an IV right away!"

"Got it!" Sharon replied.

They teamed up to lift the middle-aged man into the car, then drove off toward the hospital, following the signs.

"Nurse! Someone's passed out!" Once they arrived at the hospital, Sharon jumped out and rushed inside to grab a stretcher.

It was dinnertime, and the hospital lobby was unusually quiet. Aside from the emergency room, most departments were closed for the evening.

Sharon had been shouting since she entered the hospital. She ran to the emergency room, and a nurse finally sauntered out. With an impatient look, she scrutinized Sharon and asked with a frown, "What's the matter?"

"Someone's passed out! I need a stretcher!" Sharon was panting.

"There's no one to help you with a stretcher right now. There's a wheelchair over there. You'll have to make do with that."

Without waiting for Sharon to respond, the nurse turned and disappeared back into the emergency room.

Time was of the essence, so Sharon didn't have the luxury to argue. She quickly pushed a wheelchair from the corner and was about to dash outside when she saw the nurse emerge from the emergency room again.

This time, she was holding a thick stack of papers. "Pay up first."

Sharon had to stop again and reluctantly took the invoice from the nurse.

What kind of hospital was this? A patient had passed out, and they acted like it was no big deal. They even demanded payment before the patient even arrived.

As Sharon grumbled to herself, Yolanda walked through the hospital doors. "Did you get the stretcher?"

"Yolanda, take care of the payment first. I'll push him over." Sharon handed the invoice to Yolanda as she spoke.

"Payment?" Yolanda looked momentarily confused. "The patient isn't even here yet. What fees are these?"

The original Yolanda had never understood why, and for a while, she feared it was her fault. Eventually, she gave up on herself.

Thinking back to how Kieran looked earlier, Yolanda realized that perhaps his absence wasn't due to anything the original Yolanda had done to anger him. He might have just faced some situation that prevented him from coming.

But to know for sure, she would have to wait until Kieran woke up and ask him directly.

This was a lingering question for the original Yolanda, so Yolanda resolved to look after Kieran in her place.

Once Yolanda finished the payment and paperwork, she arrived at the emergency room to find Sharon pacing anxiously at the door.

"What's wrong, Sharon?"

"No one's treating him in there, Yolanda. What are we going to do?"
