He immediately gestured for Nathan to come over.

Nathan, along with a few of his subordinates, hurried over eagerly.

"Mr. Sterling, what do you need?" Nathan asked, his tone full of deference.

"What's this?" Hayden pointed at the unfamiliar substance. "I don't remember including this in the recipe I gave you."

"Oh, that?" Nathan chuckled as if it were nothing out of the ordinary. "That's a food additive, mainly for preservation."

"What? Preservatives?"

Hayden and Christina exchanged stunned glances, their expressions shifting. It dawned on them that mass-producing a product at this scale was nothing like making it by hand.

"So, that yellowish tint… it's probably because of the preservatives," Hayden mused, his voice carrying a deeper meaning.

"Mr. Sterling, there's no way around it," Nathan explained with a hint of helplessness. "Without preservatives, the product won't last long. If we ship it to other provinces, it'll spoil from humidity before it even hits the shelves.

"That would lead to a high return rate, which would be a major loss for the factory.

"Besides, the amount we're using is completely safe. Almost every food product contains preservatives. It's industry standard, not low-quality production."

Nathan's tone was measured, but a trace of awkwardness remained. After all, preservatives were an accepted reality in food manufacturing.

"I don't have a problem with using preservatives," Hayden said, his voice steady. "But if they affect the product, that's a real problem."

His brows furrowed slightly.
