The elderly lady sat down, her hands trembling slightly, as she finally gave voice to her thoughts:

She and Jules were madly in love, but just when things were heating up, the McCoy family elders forced her into marrying the Rowland heir. Morris said, "You’re sharp, ma’am, but it’s a pity your son turned out a bit slow on the uptake."

The elderly lady laughed softly, "Oh, you cheeky boy, why talk about your father like that? Jules isn’t slow; he just never thought he deserved happiness, so he couldn’t believe he’d get lucky."

Morris cut in coolly, "Madame, Jules and I are just related by blood, nothing more."

The elderly lady was shocked, "You’re not planning to acknowledge him?"

Morris nodded.

Her face fell, "Are you still upset with Jules? He did side with Mick earlier and hurt you. I’ll make sure to have words with him."

Morris gave a faint smile, "In his eyes, I’m the rival’s kid, and I’ve stirred the pot plenty in the past. It’s only natural he’s wary. Mick’s his golden boy; it’s normal for him to lean that way."

She looked confused, "If you get all that, why won’t you recognize him? Nathan, Jules is fiercely protective. If he knew you were his son, he’d probably spoil you rotten."

"There are other reasons I can’t accept him," Morris replied, sounding a bit lost.

"Like what?" she pressed, visibly upset.
