Astrid’s POV
I stilled when my eyes finally landed on Killian, who was standing at a distance, personally waiting for my arrival.
I don’t know how long he had been waiting and how long he had arrived. As the Alpha of the Silvermoon Pack, he had to personally attend to me, especially on the day of my arrival.
I am a member of the Shadowfang Pack, the daughter of the Shadowfang Pack’s Alpha. I came here to lend our Pack’s support, which made me their honored guest.
That makes me more important than Killian, the Alpha of the Silvermoon Pack himself. If something bad happened to me during my stay here, The Shadowfang Pack would hold them accountable, and the Silvermoon Pack is no match for us.
Offending me would be offending the Shadowfang Pack. Just a single complaint from me and their whole Pack would be in danger.
Killian, Giselle, and all the other members of the Pack will have to walk around me on eggshells.
No one could afford to offend the Shadowfang Pack. No one can afford to offend me.
Killian slowly approached me, his eyes never leaving mine. He maintained a civil demeanor, upholding professional behavior in front of me. “How was the journey, Miss Astrid?” He asked smoothly.
I glanced around me casually. “It’s been four years since I left. I thought things would look different. I didn’t expect that there would be no changes around here.”
Killian smiled, and his expression showed a hint of understanding. “You were gone for only four years, not a decade. Time flies fast, and changes happen, but there are always unchanged things you could go back to.”
I turned to face him. “I guess so.”
I realized then that the Silvermoon Pack had remained unchanged. The same people, the same place I remembered. But the truth settled heavily on my shoulders: I was no longer that same person.
“Miss Astrid, let me show you to your room,” Killian said, his tone courteous yet firm. As he spoke, his omegas moved into action, unloading my luggage from the trunk with practiced efficiency.
I silently followed behind Killian, letting him lead the way. I was surprised when Killian did not enter the Packhouse but instead walked past it.
A flicker of confusion crossed my mind; I had assumed I would be staying there.
“Where are we going?” I asked, casting a glance back at the familiar structure, its walls steeped in memories.
Killian turned slightly, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. “We have a guest house prepared for you. I thought it would provide you with more privacy.”
A guest house? Huh.
I had always known the Packhouse to have enough vacant rooms. When guests stay overnight, I remember how we typically offered them those unoccupied spaces to make use of them.
I thought I would be staying in one of them. I didn’t expect that Killian would keep me out of the Packhouse entirely.
