Drystan’s POV
I stirred awake, a wave of weakness and lightheadedness washing over me. As I blinked against the light, my gaze fell on Nova, sleeping peacefully beside me.
A soft smile crept onto my face at the sight of her, the warmth of her presence easing the heaviness in my chest.
I thought she had already left. I thought I wouldn’t see her again. I thought the last conversation we would ever have was that argument we had.
But here she was, sitting in the chair, her head propped on her arms folded together on my bed. Despite everything that happened between us and the conflict that we had, she still stayed here for me, showing how much she still cared for me.
I watched her body rise and fall as she breathed; her face was turned towards me as she slept, and for a moment, I let myself bask in the comfort of her presence.
I slowly lifted my finger and gently brushed away the tendrils of hair that were blocking her face. My heart sank when I noticed her swollen eyes and the dried tears on her cheeks.
A pang of guilt shot through me. Had she been crying for me? I thought she hated me. I didn’t expect that she would even cry for me.
“Alpha, you’re awake!” The Pack Doctor exclaimed, his voice a mix of relief and urgency as he entered my room.
I quickly brought a finger to my lips, signaling him to tone down his voice. His eyes widened as he realized his mistake.
He immediately lowered his volume and glanced at Nova to ensure he hadn’t disturbed her.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, his expression softening as he looked back at me. “How are you feeling?”
“I still feel lightheaded,” I answered in a soft voice, careful not to wake Nova. “What happened to her?” I asked him, feeling more concerned about Nova than my own health.
The Pack Doctor looked at Nova with pity in his eyes. “She stayed up all night watching you, waiting for you to wake up. Michael and I tried to call her to leave and take a rest, but she wouldn’t rest until you were awake,” he gently replied.
I glanced back at Nova with warmth enveloping my heart.
“She was so worried about you that she cried until she eventually fell asleep in her tears,” The Pack Doctor continued.
A wave of emotion washed over me, mixing gratitude with guilt. The realization that she cared so deeply about me made me understand that what we shared was even deeper than the bond she had with Michael.
I had thought Michael had completely replaced me in her life, but it was clear I still held an important place in her heart. A surge of triumph washed over me upon this realization.
I grabbed one of the folded blankets on the table beside me and carefully wrapped it around Nova, wanting to shield her from the cold. I gently tugged at the blanket, ensuring it completely covered her without stirring her from her slumber.
“What’s wrong with me, Doctor?” I finally asked, my voice low as I leaned back against the bed, my gaze fixed on Nova.
“It’s your wolf,” the Pack Doctor replied, his expression serious. “Your wolf has been damaged due to overworking yourself. You’ve pushed beyond your limits, and now it’s taking a toll on both your body and your wolf.”
