Killian’s POV

I drank my cold water in large gulps, hoping to quell the growing heat inside me, but instead, it seemed to intensify.

The cold liquid did nothing to cool the fire surging through my body. Every attempt to shake off the sensation only made it worse, an uncontrollable current of raw desire that left me disoriented.

My mind drifted, unwillingly, back to Astrid—her eyes, her presence still lingering in the back of my thoughts.

"Killian, are you alright?" Giselle's voice broke through the haze, and I flinched when her hand suddenly touched my arm.

The innocent contact sent an unexpected jolt through me, and I pulled back instinctively.

Something stirred inside me again, something I didn’t want to acknowledge.

I was still sitting across from Giselle, but my body was betraying me in ways I couldn’t control.

I could feel her watching me, concern written all over her face, but I couldn’t explain what was happening. I wasn’t sure I even understood it myself.

"Should we go back to our rooms?" she suggested, her voice gentle and sultry in my ears.

I forced myself to meet her gaze, trying to mask the storm brewing inside. "Sure, let's do that," I replied, my voice coming out tight and strained. "We’re done eating anyway."

I stood up to leave, desperate to get away from this. But before I could take a step, Giselle approached me, her hands suddenly on my body, gripping my arms softly.

"Killian, we've been married for three years now. Are we still going to sleep in different rooms?" Giselle spoke in a low voice as she stepped forward, closing the distance between us and pressing her body against mine.

I stared at her, my mind feeling hazy, as if everything around me was spinning slightly out of control.

I swallowed hard before I grabbing her hands and pushing them away from me. "I'm tired, Giselle. Let’s talk about this tomorrow," I said firmly and walked past her, the need to escape stronger than ever.

"Killian, wait!" she shouted, trying to catch up to me, her voice filled with desperation.

She stepped forward, but before she could reach me, Beta Ryder appeared out of nowhere, blocking her path.

"Luna Giselle, it’s dark already," Ryder said calmly, his voice steady. "Allow me to guide you to your room."

I didn’t stop. I even turned my head around to take a glance. I couldn’t. I needed to be away from all of this — away from her before I lose my control.

I don’t know what’s happening to myself.

“Get out of the way, Ryder!” Giselle snapped, trying to push past him. “I need to talk to Killian!”

But Ryder didn’t budge. His presence was calm, unshakable, the way it always was when he was silently watching over things. “Luna, with all due respect, Alpha Killian is tired. We’ll handle everything tomorrow.”
