Asha’s POV

The chaos outside the Packhouse was deafening, the shouts of warriors mixing with the blaring alarms.

My heart pounded in my chest as I rushed to find my father. Three warriors trailed closely behind me, their presence both reassuring and a reminder of how grave the situation was.

When I found him in the main hall, his expression was a mix of concern and focus.

The weight of leadership never left his shoulders, even now, as danger closed in on us.

“Father,” I called, my voice firm but urgent. “The rogues have breached the borders. Andros sent me to evacuate you. We have to leave now.”

His brows furrowed deeply, his gaze shifting toward the window where the faint glow of fires could be seen in the distance.

“How could this be? How could they get past the security measures so fast? We have the most advanced technology. How could the rogues enter our perimeters just like that?” My father echoed the same questions that I had, but there was no time to think.

“The rogues wouldn’t have the courage to attack us if they didn’t have a plan,” I replied.

“Where is Andros?”

“He’s leading the warriors. Astrid insisted he leave with us, but you know him. He wouldn’t. He’s determined to fight,” I said quickly, trying to mask the knot of worry in my stomach. “Father, please. We don’t have time to waste.”

He nodded, his lips pressing into a thin line. “Alright. Let’s go.”

I led him out of the Packhouse, my eyes scanning the area for any signs of movement.

The warriors flanked us protectively, their weapons drawn and ready. My feet moved quickly, but my mind raced even faster.

When we reached the edge of the Packhouse grounds, my father suddenly stopped.

“Wait,” he said, his tone sharp. He turned back toward the building, his expression hardening.

“Father, what are you doing?” I asked, panic creeping into my voice.

“I need to go back,” he said, already taking a step toward the Packhouse.

“What?” I grabbed his arm, stopping him. “We can’t go back. We had to leave! The rogues would be coming soon!”

He turned to me, his eyes serious. “I left something in my office. Something that cannot fall into the hands of the rogues. It’s too important.”

“What could possibly be worth the risk?” I demanded, my grip tightening on his arm. “Just leave it. Your safety is more important!”

His gaze softened briefly, but the determination in his voice didn’t waver. “Asha, this isn’t just about me. If they get what I left behind, it will jeopardize everything.”

My breath hitched, my resolve faltering as his words sank in. What could he have left behind that was so crucial?

I didn’t want to let him go, but I also knew I couldn’t stop him.

“Fine,” I said reluctantly, my voice trembling. “But I’m staying here. We’ll wait for you, right here, and we’re not leaving without you.”

He hesitated, as if weighing my words, then nodded. “Alright. Stay hidden and don’t move. I’ll be quick.”

“Be careful,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Without another word, he turned and sprinted back toward the Packhouse. I watched him go, my chest tightening with every step he took away from me.
