Astrid’s POV
The words hung in the air, heavy and ominous. I felt my chest tighten, the implications settling like a stone in my stomach. “What do you mean?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Andros’s gaze dropped again, his shoulders slumping as if the weight of his confession was too much to bear.
“If you suspect that someone’s feeding the rogue king information, it wasn’t me. It must be someone close to you,” he answered. “Since they know so much about the Pack, it could be someone in your ranks. Tell me, is there anyone acting weird recently? Anyone you think that is hiding something.”
“That’s impossible,” I instantly blurted out. “All of us wanted the rogue king gone. All of us were helping each other to overcome this crisis. Why would someone betray us and work with the rogue king?”
“I’m not the one leaking information to the rogue king,” Andros spoke sternly.
“Who do you think it is?” The question that escaped Killian’s mouth made me look at him.
“Killian, what are you saying?” I asked as I whipped my head to him.
I thought he would take my side and have the same thoughts as me. I couldn’t suspect any traitor among us. It was impossible, absurd even.
Andros and Killian stared at each other for a long time, sharing quiet understanding. Killian was the first to speak. “Was it an Alpha?”
My jaw fell at Killian’s question. I never considered that one of the Alphas could possibly be secretly working with the rogue king.
When Andros suggested that there could be someone working for the rogues among us, the first thing that came to my mind were the members of our Pack.
“I’m not sure,” Andros answered. “As I told you, I don’t know anything about the rogue King. Aside from the forsaken amulet, I have no idea what else he is planning or thinking. All I know is that he has a lot of people helping him and it could be someone you would least expect.”
Killian slowly nodded his head. “If he could have my mother work secretly for him, then he could have had another Alpha or Luna working secretly for him too.”
Who could it be? Who is he thinking?
Andros nodded. “You should check everyone. We can never be too safe.”
Killian’s fists clenched at his sides, his breathing uneven as he thought of someone like an Alpha and a Luna working as a spy against us.
“Who do you think would have a connection to the rogue king?” I asked Andros.
Andros’s eyes narrowed in thought. “I don’t know who will. Maybe we would be totally surprised to find out who that person is.“
The sincerity in his voice struck me harder than I expected. He wasn’t deflecting blame, wasn’t trying to escape his situation.
If anything, he seemed resigned, his regret etched into every line of his face.
Killian’s voice was low, trembling with restrained fury. “If we find out you’re lying—”
