Julia and Valerie looked sympathetically at the woman lying on the hospital bed. She was barely clinging to life. For some reason, Julia felt a sense of familiarity when she looked at the woman’s face. She felt she had seen her somewhere before but couldn’t place it.

Julia, what are you thinking? You’ve been silent the whole time Valerie asked curiously, recalling how they found the woman unconscious on the roadside. If it weren’t for Julia’s sharp eyes, they might not have noticed her.

Valerie had never seen a person with so many injuries all over their body. On the way to the hospital, she had glimpsed at the woman’s wounds, which were either from cigarette burns or knife cuts. Some wounds were infected and pus–filled. making them particularly gruesome,

“If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t believe that there are people capable of such brutality. I wonder what this woman did to anger someone so much, Valerie muttered.

“Hey. “Julia?” Valerie continued talking, but she didn’t get a response from Julia. She waved her hand in front of Julia’s face. “Hey, I’m talking to you. What’s got you so lost in thought?”

“I just feel like I’ve seen this woman somewhere before. She looks so familiar,” Julia replied.

“Maybe you’ve seen her on the street before,” Valerie suggested. Let’s focus on how to contact her family.”

Unable to recall where she might have seen the woman, Julia decided to stop dwelling on it. Since they hadn’t been able to reach the woman’s family yet, they could only stay at the hospital until she woke up and they could contact her relatives.

Valerie was easily moved to tears and had a tender heart. She was the type of person who could cry while watching TV dramas and couldn’t bear to see others suffering, especially in such horrifying situations. Her tears flowed continuously whenever the woman’s injuries were mentioned

“What kind of person could be so malicious?” Valerie asked.

“How would I know? The world is full of people who present one face in public and another in private. Someone who appears to be an angel in public might be a devil when no one’s watching, Julia replied calmly. “It’s hard to make a definitive judgment about good and evil.”

Valerie disagreed with Julia’s view. “Evil is evil, and good is good. It’s not difficult to distinguish between them.”

Julia smiled helplessly. Everyone had their standards for measuring good and evil, and she always believed that distinguishing between the two was not easy.

Then, the woman lying unconscious on the hospital bed suddenly coughed. Valerie excitedly leaned in close to the woman’s face. She saw the woman flutter her eyelids and. After a moment, the woman opened her eyes, looking bewildered.

She smiled. “You’re finally awake.”

Julia stood beside Valerie. The woman did not react strongly when she saw Valerie, but when she saw Julia, she revealed a terrified expression. It puzzled Julia.

The woman was extremely scared as if she had seen a ghost. She became aggigated, gripping the bedsheets tightly, and her body seemed to convulse. Julia quickly called for a doctor.

The doctor administered a sedative, and the ward finally quieted down.

As time passed, when the door to the ward was pushed open, Harry entered and saw Valerie dozing off on the side and the still unconscious woman. He calmly withdrew his gaze and walked directly toward Julia.

Pausing for a moment, Julia continued, “She should be the maid you specifically hired for Arya I called you to confirm if it’s true. You must know the maid who works for Arya.”

Harry said, “She is the maid I hired for Arya.”

Julia didn’t provide detailed information about the woman over the phone, so Harry didn’t understand the purpose of her actions. “Is this why you called me?”

Julia approached the bed, pulling back the blanket to reveal the woman’s slender arms. When Harry saw the scars on her arms, his complexion changed drastically, and he asked, “Who did this?”

“I don’t know. Perhaps only she can tell us the truth when she wakes up. Valerie and I found her unconscious by the roadside…” Julia covered her back with the blanket again, then walked to the window. Harry followed her, unsure of what to

say.

“She woke up once just now, but she became very agitated when she saw me. I don’t know why. I saw her last time when I went to see Arya. She happened to be the one who opened the door for me. At that time, I sensed that she seemed to be afraid of Arya,” Julia explained.
