Chapter 146
KAIDEN STIRLING
After speaking with a lawyer who I knew was a werewolf, I headed right for the Alpha quarters where Safiya claimed Francisco was locked in. I desperately wanted to see Freda and be sure she was okay, on though I knew she was anything but
okay. I wanted to reunite ner with her son so her mind could be at rest. Most of all, I wanted to destroy the members of the council for their corruption.
I wanted to speak to Gorden and ask him where the f**k he was when a Council meeting was called against my mate by the crazed woman I had married. I wanted to ask him why the members of the council had done something that had broken several codes. I wanted to ask him what the quickest way would be to have all of them removed from the Council and tossed in the trash can where they belonged.
I was furious. By the heavens, I was so furious I could have smashed in the face of the guard I saw guarding the playroom.
Francisco was crying and knocking on the door. I could not imagine how these men had endured listening to him crying for his mother. Then again, they had been ordered by their crazy Luna and they had a duty to obey her. They could not do anything otherwise.
“Open the door and move,” I told both of them and they looked at each other, clearly conflicted on whether to follow my order or listen to whatever Safiya had told them. They both shared a nod

that would have been imperceptible if it wasn’t for how hard I was watching them.
“Yes alpha,” they said at the same time. One of them turned and unlocked the door, stepping aside so I could open it and enter. I watched them with surprise. I had expected them to put up a fight because the Luna’s instructions were almost as binding as mine.
I eyed them suspiciously and tool step towards the door. I pressed my ear against it and hearu Francisco sniffing.
My heart received a c**k. “Cisco, I’m coming in. I need you to step back from the door so I can open it,” I said in a small voice that was loud enough for him to hear from the other side. His crying lowered and I heard his small voice from the doorknob side. That was probably where he reached with his little height.
“Dad?” He called softly and my heart cracked yet again. “It’s me,” I said, forcing the horrible thought of Harper not living to call me ‘Daddy’ again out of my head.
“I’m coming in,” I said and he coughed a little. I carefully pushed the door open, just in case he was still there. He was not in my line of sight and for a solid second, I panicked. “Francisco?” I called and he stepped out from behind the door.
He wrapped his hands around me and started to s**b. “Daddy, I thought I’d never see anyone again,” he sobbed, burying his face in my pants. I lifted him off the floor and into my arms, leaning him against my chest. “I’m here,” I said, rubbing my hand across his back and soothing him.
I looked towards the side and I caught sight of a small heap of snacks. I turned to look at the guards to explain and one of

them spoke. The blonde one. “He wouldn’t stop crying, and I thought we should try and calm him down with some snacks,” he offered as an explanation, and I stared back and forth between the both of them until I was satisfied at the fact that they seemed to be telling the truth.
“How long has he been here?” I asked them, walking out of the room with Francisco in my arms. He was hiccuping and holding me tight. I pressed the side of my head to the side of his so he could feel my presence and feel safe.
“Since yesterday night,” the dark-haired man answered. “F**k,” I muttered under my breath. Safiya had a loose nut in her head. She was absolutely crazy. I almost could not believe this.
“He hasn’t had anything to eat since yesterday?” I asked, glaring at them. They both remorsefully nodded and I pressed my lips together, saying nothing.
“What would you like to eat, Francisco?” I asked and he shook his head that was leaning against my shoulder. “I want to see my mommy,” he said quietly. I nodded but I was still going to get something for him to eat, just in case. The guards followed me out of the Alpha quarters and walked with me as I headed to the cafeteria.
I had a variety of food packed to go so that Francisco, Freda, and Lyra would eat. I needed to know what exactly had happened last night.
The whole thing was crazy because just last night, I had been with Safiya in an emergency ward, trying to care for her and my baby. Now, I wanted nothing more than to take my child from her and leave her alone. That was exactly what I was going to do.
