Myra recognized the sapphire jewelry set. It was an auction piece from a month ago that was rumored to have sold for nearly two million dollars. "Kayla, who were you with? And who gave you this jewelry?"

"M-Mom..." Kayla stammered, trying to steer the conversation elsewhere. "Let's eat first. I'll explain everything after dinner. Look, I brought back all your and Dad's favorite foods!"

She unpacked the food and laid it out on the table. The rich aroma filled the room, and the selection was luxurious.

But Myra's frown only deepened. The containers bore the logo of a five-star hotel. She asked suspiciously, "Kayla, are you dating someone?"

"No! It's nothing like that. I just had dinner with a cousin of mine, and they gave me a gift. That's all." Kayla touched the sapphire necklace around her neck and smiled.

Myra quirked a brow. "Which cousin? Jake's family is avoiding us like the plague. Would they give you such an extravagant gift?"

"It's not them! It's from my biological parents' side of the family…" Kayla confessed. "My aunt found me and said she wants to take me in."

Myra froze. She finally understood where Kayla was hinting at. Kayla wanted to leave. She didn't want to suffer alongside the bankrupt Fuller family anymore.

A flood of emotions washed over Myra. She didn't know what to feel, but she knew that her heart had turned cold.

Countless thoughts raced in her mind. In the end, she sighed. "Fine. Leave if you want to."

Kayla pouted. "Mom, don't worry! I'm just staying with my aunt temporarily. I'll come back. I still have to take care of you and Dad!"

If this had been in the past, Myra would have been heartbroken to hear Kayla say such things. She might have tried every possible way to keep her daughter by her side. But after everything that had happened, her feelings for Kayla weakened.

With this in mind, Myra glanced at Kayla before quickly masking her expression.

Just then, Dexter suddenly leaped up and swiped his arm across the table, sending the food crashing to the floor! He roared as he swung his hand at Kayla.

Kayla never expected him to hit her and couldn't dodge the attack.

Seeing Dexter about to strike again, Kayla scrambled out of the way and ran toward the door. She was filled with anger and frustration. What was wrong with him? First, he lost his mind; now, he was acting like a mad dog!

To Kayla, Dexter was nothing more than a burden. No matter how many years she had called him "Dad", she couldn't tolerate taking care of someone so far gone as what Myra was doing now.

Kayla deemed Dexter to be utterly useless now.
