Chapter 169
“I drove over. Come downstairs in a bit.” Sebastian’s voice had lost its usual laid–back tone.
“I’m fine.” Abigail wiped the tears off her face. She was indeed upset, but not enough to expect anything from Sebastian just because of what Stephen did.
“He even called to threaten me.” Sebastian sighed. “He said if I didn’t come, I shouldn’t call myself your boyfriend.”
“We’re not even dating.” Abigail’s tone was awkward. She truly thought Stephen had something wrong with his brain. Otherwise, he wouldn’t cause her to lose her composure in front of Sebastian.
Abigail had always thought she was emotionally stable, yet a butterfly hairclip had her crying in front of Sebastian. She felt pathetic.
“But I want to.” Sebastian’s voice softened.
Tears still clung to Abigail’s cheeks, and she didn’t know how to respond.
“You don’t have to answer me right away,” he added.
Abigail checked the time—it was nearly 1 a.m. She said, “It’s too late, you really shouldn’t come.”
She had always seen Sebastian as a good friend. Sometimes even she didn’t understand what was bothering her–just the idea of casually starting a relationship with him made her uncomfortable. Even if he wanted to date her, she couldn’t allow herself to agree so easily.
“Honestly, I can’t sleep either. There’s something I can’t figure out. Want to chat?” Sebastian asked.
Abigail couldn’t help but ask, “What is it?”
“I’m working on an AI. Something for mass use, to help people search for information—but I’m stuck on part of the concept,” Sebastian said.
Abigail unconsciously tightened her grip on her phone. She found it oddly coincidental that their ideas were so similar.
“You still need to look things up?” Abigail found it hard to believe. With his abilities, he had an entire team that could bring his ideas to life in minutes. She didn’t underestimate the power of wealthy people.
“I don’t, but my classmates and their friends do,” Sebastian said casually.
Abigail said, “Then come and tell me in person.”
“Don’t hang up, I’m almost there,” he said.
“Where exactly are you stuck?” Abigail hesitated, debating whether she should share what she had been working on. But if she did, it would turn into a work–related matter.
The truth was, that Abigail had only intended to work slowly on her AI project. She hadn’t planned to rush, because she wanted to add her own creative touches. It was born out of personal interest and practical needs.
“I’ll tell you when I get there,” Sebastian said with a laugh.
Abigail wondered if he was just teasing her. But a few minutes later, Sebastian really did pull up outside Gibson Villa.
Gibson Villa was located in an upscale neighborhood in Cobridge, where the streetlights were bright even at night. So when Sebastian drove up his luxury car, Daniella, sitting by her bedroom window, spotted him immediately.
A handsome man stepped out of the car, his white shirt casually tucked into his waistband, giving him a free–spirited look.
Daniella’s eyes burned with jealousy. She couldn’t understand why he liked Abigail more. Even if she was the adopted daughter of the Gibson family, Daniella thought she had been carefully groomed–her looks and knowledge far surpassed Abigail’s.
Ralph had rejected Daniella multiple times and even defended Abigail. And now, even someone like Sebastian cared so much about Abigail. This
baffled Daniella.
Soon, Abigail appeared. The moment Sebastian, leaning against the car, saw her, his cold expression melted away.
Daniella watched for a while before furiously yanking the curtains shut. She grew more convinced that Abigail didn’t deserve Sebastian.
All her jealousy and resentment boiled up inside her. If Abigail had never existed, she would still be the beloved princess of the Gibson family.
She clenched her fists and thought viciously, ‘Abigail should just die.
