"What? All you did was keep track of what I eat every day?"

Sophie looked bewildered as she heard Polly's explanation. She glanced at Colby standing next to her, who looked equally puzzled.

"No other questions were asked. But Mr. Burke heard you weren't eating in the living room, so he went back to his room."

"Kiran's being way too obvious, don't you think?"

Sophie frowned. "I want to test him a bit more, see what he's really after."

Colby, in his usual nonchalant way, remarked, "From everything we've seen so far, he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. Don't use any overly complicated methods to test him, he might not get it."

"He's the heir to the Pollard family abroad. He can't be that dumb... can he?"

"Dumb isn't my word," Colby said seriously. "It's what his actions are showing."

Indeed, judging from Angelo's recent behavior, he didn't seem all that bright.

Angelo muttered through a mouthful of food as he opened the door. Seeing Sophie there, he froze for a moment.

"Mr. Burke, may I come in?"

"Uh... just a sec!"

Angelo quickly shut the door, fumbling for his phone to message James.

This was the first time Sophie had come to his room on her own!

Why would Sophie want to discuss business with him?

Was his company, S Corporation in Devonport, in trouble?

As Angelo pondered, Sophie delicately remarked, "Recently, my company has been under attack by Reeves International, and we're at a loss. Now, Elodie still holds shares in Burke International, which she might use against us. If that happens, our position in Devonport will be in jeopardy..."

"That won't happen! It's only risky for you if you get hold of Burke International's shares!"

Angelo blurted out, immediately catching Sophie's attention.

Realizing his slip, Angelo quickly stammered, "What I mean is, weren't those shares from your ex-husband? If you keep the shares he gave you, wouldn't Colby get jealous? Your home would be in chaos, and who knows, your marriage might be at risk!"

Angelo's mind was racing; he had accidentally spilled what James had told him.

Even though he didn't fully understand James's reasoning, James was usually right.

Sophie asked, "Mr. Burke, are you saying that getting Burke International's shares would endanger us—you mean our marriage would be in danger?"
