This was the thing Vincent envied most about Tyrone.

Tyrone could throw tantrums in front of everyone without consequence. If Tyrone wanted to marry Alicia, no one dared stop him. But Vincent? He could only watch from the sidelines.

"Aren't you going to give Alicia a gift? Your grandchildren are the true Lynches—the bloodline is right here, there's no escaping it. You can't always say the same for others," Tyrone sniped, seizing the moment to demand a gift with a smirk and a pointed look.

Maddox's eyes nearly bulged out of his head. He jabbed a finger at Tyrone, his face darkening with rage, then snatched another envelope from his assistant and tossed it at Alicia with a huff. "You're a lucky girl. Take care of yourself—The Lynch family will treat you well."

With that, the old man marched out of the room, shoulders squared, looking for all the world like he could live another hundred years.

Alicia couldn't help but wonder—if Maddox was in such good shape, why had Tyrone insisted he was so ill? Why had he pressured her to marry quickly, even tying the end of their contract to the old man's supposed demise?

What if Maddox really did make it to a hundred...

"Tyrone…" Alicia looked nervously at the envelope in front of her, then up at him, unsure whether to accept it. She wasn't even really pregnant...

"If he gives it to you, just take it." Tyrone tipped his chin toward the envelope, signaling her to tuck it away.

Obediently, Alicia slipped the envelope into her purse. It didn't feel particularly thick—maybe a few hundred dollars at most. That made her feel a little less guilty about keeping it.

"Go on, walk your grandfather out. You're going to give him a heart attack!" Reginald grabbed Tyrone by the arm, dragging him toward the door. "Honestly, you're harder to handle than your own father. Go apologize."

Reginald shot Tyrone a look that brooked no argument, but Tyrone grumbled, "You know how he is. If I don't push back, he just keeps pushing. He never listens."

Ignoring his protests, Reginald pulled Tyrone after Maddox. Meanwhile, Jade finally lost her composure and slammed her fork onto the table, making Alicia jump.

"Don't kid yourself into thinking he's doing any of this for you," Jade hissed, her voice low and sharp. "It's all for Serena. You're just caught in the crossfire."
