Jade’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly looked away.

That bastard... She was just waiting for the day Clayton would be cornered with nowhere left to run.

When that day came, she swore she’d make him kneel at her feet.

She didn’t believe for a second that when she pushed him to his limits, Clayton’s face would still remain unreadable.

“Clayton’s here.” The old man, who hadn’t slept long, emerged from his room to greet him.

“Grandpa, Nicole’s all alone in Seaview City. She’s an easy target for bullies. Now the Ryans are throwing a homecoming party for their daughter, and I’m not even in town—everyone’s taking advantage of her.” Jade quickly got up and hurried over to the old man, her voice soft and sweet. “Grandpa, please announce Nicole’s identity as soon as possible. Once people know she’s the heir, that’ll keep them in line.”

Reginald’s eyes darkened for a moment before he nodded. “That’s part of why I called Clayton back.”

A faint smile tugged at Nicole’s lips.

“Grandpa.” Clayton came over and offered his arm to steady the old man.

“Clayton,” Reginald said, “Nicole’s still at Seaview. Her studies have to come first, but I need you to head down there tomorrow. Stay with her—look out for her, help her, protect her. When she graduates, I’ll make my will public and call a press conference.” The old man’s gaze was pleading.

Clayton nodded.

Jade’s lips curved into a sly smile.

Nicole and Alicia were in the same year, but since they majored in different fields, Nicole would graduate a bit later—though not by much.

“If there’s nothing else, go help your father. Clayton and I have things to discuss.” Reginald’s tone made it clear she was being dismissed.

Jade’s expression soured, but she shot Clayton a glare before turning to leave.

At the doorway, she couldn’t resist glancing back at him one more time.
