Winnie rolled her eyes. “If you’re sick, go see a doctor. Talk about earning the White family’s approval after that.”

Nicole shot a glare at Clayton. “Did you hear me? Cancel all business with the White family and their associates!”

Clayton replied coolly. “I don’t have the final say over White Corporation’s partnerships—that’s up to the old man. Besides, the Ryan family barely does any business with the Whites as it is. Do you want us to ramp up cooperation just so we can cancel it afterward?”

Nicole was so furious her face went red. “Clayton, what’s that supposed to mean? You’re planning to hand her even more business?”

Winnie just rolled her eyes again and stepped aside with Alicia.

Clayton didn’t respond. He opened the car door and motioned for Nicole to get in.

Nicole huffed. “Just wait until I’m in charge—I’ll fire you the first chance I get.”

Clayton raised an eyebrow, his demeanor as calm and unbothered as ever. Only after Nicole climbed into the car did he close the door and rub his ear, as if to say she really was insufferably loud.

“I feel for you,” Winnie said, giving Clayton a look of sympathy.

“Need a ride?” Clayton asked.

Winnie and Alicia waved him off. “No, thanks. Tyrone’s coming to pick us up.”

Tyrone had already promised Alicia he’d come for her as soon as he finished things up at Evercrest Group.

Clayton nodded and was just about to get in his car when his phone rang. His expression changed instantly as he answered.

He took a slow, steadying breath, then turned to Alicia. “Alicia, I need you to brace yourself… Something’s happened to Tyrone.”

Alicia’s face went deathly pale. Her stomach twisted with anxiety as she rushed forward. “Clayton, what do you mean? What happened?”

Winnie’s worry showed on her face too. “What’s going on with Tyrone?”

“He was in a car accident on the way here,” Clayton said, voice low. “After inheriting such a fortune from Maddox, too many people have their eyes on him.” Too many wanted Tyrone gone.

Alicia nearly collapsed, and Winnie caught her.

“He’ll be okay, don’t panic,” Winnie hurried to comfort her. “Tyrone’s always been lucky.”

Tears welled up in Alicia’s eyes. “I shouldn’t have asked him to come get me…”

Clayton shook his head. “Alicia, you can’t always see these things coming. This time it was a car accident; next time, it might be an ambush. The danger was always there.”
