The car soon rolled up to a neighborhood entrance.
As the car drove along from afar, Hansel and Gretel could see the words “Parch Urban”.
They had not forgotten that Mark mentioned buying them a house here. Did he bring them here for a tour?
Lyla blinked her eyes. “Why are you taking me here?”
“The house I talked about is furnished now. We can go take a look!” Mark pushed open the door and walked down.
Lyla. “...”
Mark did not seem to be kidding by the looks of it. Sure, he mentioned it before but Lyla only thought that it was just all talk and had long dismissed it from her mind. It never occurred to her that he would actually bring her here.
Seeing that Lyla remained in her seat without getting off, Mark frowned “Aren’t you getting down?”
Snapping out of her thoughts, Lyla unbuckled the seatbelt and got off.
“Are we really going to take a look?” She enquired, somehow having the illusion that he was her sugar daddy.
“What do you think? What do you think you’re here for?” Mark replied with a question.
Lyla. “...”
Hansel and Gretel were excited. “Daddy, which one is it?”
Mark pointed at the one up ahead.
Taking a glance at the direction, Hansel and Gretel’s jaw dropped. “Wow, Daddy, are you sure?”
“Mommy, it’s a detached residence!” Greater exclaimed. This was a house she liked and was worthy of her noble nature.
Looking at the independent villa before her, Lyla had a feeling that Gretel would love it. The young lady wanted the best no matter in food, clothing, or living conditions.
“I see it!”
“It’s so beautiful. I like the color too!’ Gretel said.
Lyla studied their faces. Honestly speaking, she was fond of the place as well, but what would it make of her relationship with Mark?
“Let’s go over and take a closer look.” Mark led them over while Lyla followed at the back, looking around while engulfed in random thoughts.
There were a lot of people living in the neighborhood. Those who took residence here were definitely wealthy and influential people that stood on the top of Alpine City’s food chain and only a handful were not acquainted with each other.
Hence, Mark attracted a lot of attention appearing with the family.
Nevertheless, Mark remained unfazed as he brought them over.
The independent villa had a lawn in the yard with a swing, outdoor table, and two sets of parasols. It appeared rather cosy.
Entering the passcode, Mark mentioned, “The password is 0506.” The door opened with a beep.
Hansel spoke, “Isn’t 0506 Mommy’s birthday?”
Mark raised a brow. “Oh, really?”
“Yes,” Gretel retorted.
Lyla turned to Mark. It never crossed her mind that he would actually use her birthday!
Who would have guessed that Mark would simply raise his brows? “It might just be a coincidence!” He then headed straight in.
Even if Lyla could convince herself, she was aware that the probability was only a 0.001% chance.
She did not believe that it was a mere coincidence.
Nevertheless, her heart was filled with bits of joy. There were no words for this feeling but she was clear that the source was from Mark.
The family of four entered the house.
Hansel and Gretel gasped in admiration the moment they stepped past the door.
Lifting her eyes, she was awestruck while taking in the furnishing inside.
It was a galore of European styled decor. From the chandelier to the corridor, it was all furnished with a European flair to it. Lyla felt as though she was walking into Europe.
The place was rather imposing.
Most importantly, the materials used were top grade. Even the floor tiles were luxury goods acquired from abroad. Talk about luxury.
The corners of Lyla’s lips were twitching at this sight. What a splurge!
“How is it? Do you like it?” Mark enquired.
Gretel bobbed her head. “I like, I do.”
“The ground floor is the living room and kitchen while the first floor has nine bedrooms. I had the second floor renovated into a personal gym. Eat, drink, be merry, all in one.” Mark said.
Lyla. “...”
Mark was definitely one to indulge in life but it sounded rather exciting.
“Yay! We finally don’t have to squeeze in one little room.” Gretel was overjoyed, speaking in a manner as though her prior living arrangement was less than satisfactory.
Hearing this, Lyla voiced out, “Was it that hard on you back then?”
Realizing what she had just said, Gretel chuckled. “No, Mommy. It’s just a random comment!”
Lyla rolled her eyes. She found it odd sometimes. This little girl came from her womb yet fancied herself living the life of a princess.
Thank goodness her daddy was Mark Pattinson. Her pampered needs would be left unfulfilled if it were anyone else.
Lyla helplessly shook her head.
With Hansel and Gretel wandering off elsewhere to look around, only Mark and Lyla remained in the living room.
“What? Do you not like it?” Mark questioned.
“I do. How can I not like such a big house? It’d be a lie to dislike such extravagance.” Lyla glanced around the room before taking a seat on the sofa.
“Then why do you look unhappy?” Lifting his brows, Mark asked. He picked up a decanted bottle of red wine to pour into two wine glasses and leisurely had a taste.
Speaking of this, Lyla turned over and looked at him. “I just don’t understand. Why are you giving me such a nice house? Is it really just to make it up to Hansel and Gretel?” Lyla probed.
Mark shook his head. “No.”
Lyla. “...” Sinking his body weight onto her, he looked at her all serious.
She was confused by his offhanded attitude.
“Lyla Lowe, my intentions could not be clearer from the very beginning.” Mark spoke each word clearly.
He never denied his feelings for Lyla. It was her presence that showed him what love was.
His broken heart from the moment of finding out she had children had then shed light on his feelings for her.
It never occurred to him that her children were his.
They were theirs.
Only god knew what was going through his mind when he learned about this news.
He wanted nothing more than to circle Alpine City and scream at the top of his lungs.
Yet, this woman seemed to play dumb with him and refused to give him a straight answer.
Looking at him, Lyla’s heart was thumping all over the place. She blinked her eyes and tried to keep her cool.
“Mark Pattinson, this joke is not funny,” Lyla retorted.
“Lyla Lowe, you’re a smart woman. You can already tell without me spelling it out. I won’t explain more if you think that I’m kidding but you know what’s going on.”
His every word struck a chord in Lyla.
She... did indeed know.
Only...
“Mr. Pattinson, don’t forget that you’re engaged.” Lyla uttered.
Mark frowned at the mention. “So, is this the reason you refuse to face me?”
Lyla. “...”
Was this the case?
Lyla merely had it in her mind that she would not be the other woman, neither did she have the desire to do so. However, Kathleen was the reason she stayed away.
Faced with Lyla’s silence, Mark nodded. “Okay, I got it.”
Lyla blinked her eyes. “What did you get?”
“I have broken off the engagement with Kathleen but have yet to make any public announcements. Lyla Lowe, you never once came in between me and her because feelings were not involved in our relationship.” They were only together mostly due to Kathleen's companionship and her status.
If Lyla was never in the picture, he believed that he would most likely tie the knot with Kathleen.
Nevertheless, he was well aware that that was not love.
Sure, Lyla despised Kathleen as the latter had tried to harm her on more than one occasion, but from a woman’s point of view, she still felt it unfair to Kathleen.
She could tell that Kathleen really liked Mark, so much so the woman attempted to do away with her multiple times because of him.
