Mark nodded after Lyla assured him that she was going to be fine.
“Since we’ve gotten new leads on Gretel, we will find her soon,” Mark said.
Deep down, Lyla was still worried but she knew she could not afford to collapse and be defeated, Gretel was waiting for her.
She forced a smile and said, “I know.”
“Okay. Go take a rest, I’m going to the study room for a while.”
Lyla nodded.
After Lyla went up, Mark went to the study room.
……
A video call got through.
“Neil, help me do a background search on this guy.” Mark sent the picture over.
“Who is this?”
“I got news today that this man is the one who smuggled Gretel away but we don’t know where yet.”
The news intrigued Neil. “So does it mean that we have some reliable leads now?”
“If we can get to this man, I guess you can say so.”
“Okay, I’m on it.”
A few seconds later, Neil said, “I didn’t dare to stop you before this, I did not expect you to really get your hands on something useful!”
Mark took a deep breath. He too dared not believe it, he dared not think of the worst but he shared the same concerns as Neil.
“It will be fine,” Mark said.
“But…” Neil wanted to speak, but the words were stuck in his throat.
“Since we got something new and it’s not bad news, I’ll do my best to locate this man for you. And, I’ve also sent Gretel’s picture of everyone in Ghost Gate. If they find anything, they will contact you right away.”
“Noted.”
……
“Daddy! I got something?”
Mark’s phone rang in the middle of the video call with Neil.
Mark bolted up and said, “What did you say?”
“That man, I’ve found him!”
“Where is he?”
“Vegas!”
“Vegas?”
“Someone from Hell’s Angel saw the man in a casino in Vegas. He’s in serious debt and is currently detained by the casino.”
“Okay, I got it. Let’s meet at the port. We will fly to Vegas immediately.”
“That’s what I thought but don’t tell Mummy about this first,” Hansel said.
“I understand.”
The brief conversation ended.
“I got news, I’m going out.”
“Okay.”
“We’ll talk when I come back.”
Before Neil could say anything else, Mark bolted away like an arrow let loose.
Neil fell silent as he watched Mark run out of his room. He sighed helplessly.
In terms of collecting intelligence, Ghost Gate was behind Hell’s Angel.
It seemed like Neil had to improve on that.
……
It was a dark night. Mark arrived at the port in his car and Hansel was already waiting for him there.
Behind the boy were Piers and Lingo.
The wind blew and Hansel really looked like a leader with the two behind him.
Mark walked over.
“Daddy.”
“Is everything ready?”
It was then that Geoge came over. “The yacht is ready, it will reach Vegas without stopping but I have a condition.”
Mak turned around to the man with a gloomy look, “What condition?”
“I’m coming with you guys.”
Mark frowned.
“Dylan has been working with me for a few years now, it’s better for me to question him than a bunch of strangers, am I right?” George said.
Hansel thought about it for a moment before he said, “Daddy, he’s right, let’s just take him along. Maybe he will be of help.”
Even Hansal said so, so Mark had to really consider it. He said to George, “If he’s not talking, I hope you won’t get in the way.”
George tightened his lips in silence for a long time before he said, “Then I hope you can spare his life.”
Mark grinned sinisterly. “Sometimes it’s better to die than stay alive.”
He then jumped on the yacht without explaining.
If George did not ask to clarify, it meant that he agreed. Hansel glanced at George before Piers helped him onto the yacht.
George was the last one to get on the yacht and since he was driving it, he went to the helm and left for Vegas.
The man named Dylan was in serious debt there and had been apprehended. Right before the local gangsters cut his hands off, he was released.
He was confused about what happened and it was then that he bumped into George.
“George! Why are you here?!” Dylan looked like he saw Jesus Christ when he saw George.
“I’m here for you of course. You promised me you wouldn’t gamble again!”
“I… I can’t hold it…” Dylan said. He then noticed there was a group of people behind George.
He frowned and asked, “Who are they?”
It was then that George thought of something and said, “I have something to ask you.”
“What’s the matter?” Dylan had a feeling that things were not right.
“A few days ago, you smuggled a girl off the port. Where is she now? Is she still… alive?” George asked.
Dylan was surprised by the answer, he looked extremely guilty when he avoided George’s gaze. “What are you talking about? I don’t know what you are talking about!”
He then signaled Piers and Lingo.
The two of them took Dylan away from George.
“George! Save me! Save me!” Dylan cried.
George was anxious, he was a little angry when he looked at Hansel. “What are you trying to do to him?!”
Hansel nonchalantly looked at the man and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to him. I just want to bring him back and let him play with some puzzles.”
“That’s it?”
“If we really want to kill him, do you think you have what it takes to stop us?” Hansel said.
George frowned. Hansel was right.
Even though their meetings had been limited, George knew Hansel was a man, or a boy, of his word, so he let Hansel take Dylan away.
Dylan, however, was terrified. He kept screaming, “George! Save me! Save me!”
His screams were useless.
George watched in silence. He believed in Hansel.
Piers and Lingo left with Dylan, and Hansel was the last to leave.
However, before Hansel really walked away, something came into his mind and he turned around to George.
“George.”
George looked at the boy.
“Do you want to follow me?” Hansel asked.
George frowned.
……
The group went back to Alpine on the same day because they believed Gretel was no longer in Vegas.
If what Dylan said was true, the men who kidnapped Gretel were already in Rome, so staying in Vegas would be a waste of time.
If they really wanted to get Gretel back, they had to inform Lyla and go to Rome together.
In short, Mark would never stop until he got Gretel back.
It was already 8:00 a.m. in the morning when they arrived back at Alpine’s port.
Lyla was already awake when Mark came back. “You are back?”
“Mhmm.”
Mark’s expression looked heavy. Lyla knew something must have happened. “Did something happen?”
Mark thought about it for a while and decided to tell her the truth. She would find out eventually.
“We found the man.”
Lyla was shocked when she heard that, her eyes were widened. “What did you say?”
“We found the man in Vegas and Hansel and I went there last night.”
“Where’s Gretel?”
“That’s the problem.”
“Where’s she?!” Lyla asked with a heavy tone.
“After she was taken to Vegas, she was transferred to Rome.”
