Felix curled his lips at the sight of Hansel and Mark. “What brings you two here?”

“Who else you want to see here?” Mark replied with a question. He showed no respect despite the place being Felix’s territory.

Unruffled, Felix stared at him. “Mark Pattinson, this place is neither your Ghost Gate nor Alpine City. You better rein yourself in.”

“Where else do you think I am? Are you going to get Eastern Union Alliance to catch me?”

“It’s not that they don’t want to but they can’t for now.”

“So, why are you telling me to rein myself in?”

“It’s only a warning not to be so full of yourself.”

“I’m sorry I can’t comply.”

……

Hansel was getting a headache from their conversation. Two fully grown men were crossing swords upon meeting.

Nevertheless, he fully believed that the both of them would tear into each other if it were not for Mummy and Gretel.

“About that, can you guys get down to business?” Hansel cut in, interrupting their dispute.

The duo quit making it all about themselves. “Tell me, why are you looking for me?”

Mark cut to the chase and said, “I’m here about Gretel.”

Raising a brow, Felix looked towards him. “Do tell.”

“I’m thinking of joining the forces of Ghost Gate and Eastern Union Alliance. It would expedite the search for Gretel.”

“Are you suggesting cooperation?” Felix was surprised.

“It’s only to look for Gretel.”

Felix perked up the corner of his lips. “I thought you wanted to become an ally.”

“Don’t get it twisted.”

Felix pursed his lips. “You know, Ghost Gate and Eastern Union Alliance have always been on bad terms. Aren’t you afraid that people might talk if we were to team up out of the blue?”

“What? Scared?”

Felix pressed his lips into a grin. “No way.”

“What are you trying to get at then?”

Felix gave it a thought before speaking, “I’m only doing it for Lyla and Gretel.”

Mark was all sorts of annoyed every time Felix called Lyla’s name. Nevertheless, he could not forsake Felix’s past good deeds no matter what.

He took one for the team for this time.

For Gretel and for Lyla.

“If that’s the case, are we in agreement?”

“Of course, I care for Lyla no less than you.”

This was an overt act of provocation.

Felix touched on Mark’s sore spot on purpose but Mark merely clenched his fist before commenting, “Thank you for being good to my woman.”

This, in turn, prompted Felix to pull a face.

Hansel’s head was throbbing with them going at it again. What was their priority right now?

He was hit with the realization that such was a man’s breadth of mind.

“Oh, Felix, I have a question,” Hansel muttered.

With Hansel speaking up, the attention was drawn back to him. “What is it?”

“Who is the woman that just left?”

“A person in charge of an area. What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. I smelled something weird coming from her,” Hansel remarked.

Hearing this, Felix curled his lips. “You have quite a nose. She may be overseeing an area but she’s also a doctor, not the type to treat illness but the kind that researches poisons and viruses.”

Hansel nodded at the explanation. “Oh, I see.”

“If that’s the case, we should get going. I hope you won’t be putting a stop to Ghost Gate’s activities over this side.”

“Don’t worry. I never go back on my word. I won’t keep you any longer, good bye.”

Mark rolled his eyes without giving his two cents before turning to leave.

……

Once they were outside, Mark turned to Hansel. “What’s the matter? Is there something wrong with the woman just now?”

Hansel shook his head. “I can’t really describe it. She gives me a weird feeling, like we’ve met but I’m sure we haven’t.”

He could not get a hold of this weird and unfamiliar feeling.

Without thinking too much, Mark took off alongside Hansel.

With Felix’s blessing, Ghost Gate became bolder in their actions.

Many Hell’s Angel members blended in, operating under the banner of Ghost Gate. It definitely would speed up the process.

Meanwhile, on the other side.

“I’ve found out!” Black Eagle walked up and exclaimed.

Detecting his voice, Lola turned her eyes to him. “Speak.”

“That girl and this child are twins.”

Lola frowned.

“That’s not all.”

“What else?”

“These two children are quite involved with Boss.”

Lola was dumbstruck. “What are you saying?”

Not wasting another breath, Black Eagle handed over some photos. Lola grabbed the pictures for a look. However, she was dumbfounded as her eyes fixated on the pictures.

“Why doesn’t anyone know?”

“It’s not an act of betrayal if it’s an inside job but more like trying to cover up some secret,” Sitting right beside, Lyla gave her input.

The second explanation was exactly what was in Hansel’s mind. He shared the same thoughts.

Hansel nodded. “I’m thinking the same. I know this has nothing to do with finding Gretel but it just doesn’t sit well with me.”

“You’re right. We shouldn’t neglect any minor details,” Mark said. This was a desperate attempt to clutch at straws.

“Now, does Felix know about this?” Mark enquired.

“They would not let Felix know if it’s the work of insiders. My people bumped into this by chance.”

Mark bobbed his head. “Indeed. Did you get someone to check on this?”

“Yes, I sent my people to investigate and trust that we’ll get to the bottom of it real soon.”

Mark nodded his head. “Let me know once you find out.”

“Sure.”

Since they had nothing on Gretel, their only choice was to put their hope on something else.

They had no clue whether it was related to Gretel but they were not going to let any chance slip away.

It was the afternoon when Hansel entered the room with a long face. Mark could tell news had just come in by looking at him.

“What’s the matter?” He asked.

“We’ve unraveled the mystery.”

“Who is behind it?”

Hansel fixed his gaze on him with a frown. “Daddy, do you remember the woman we saw when we were at Felix’s?”

Mark’s brows were in a knot. He reflected for a while and nodded. “I do. You even asked Felix Smith about her.”

“Yes, that’s the one.”

“Are you saying that the mastermind behind this is her?” Mark was in disbelief.

Hansel bobbed his head. “That’s right. Her name is Lola, a chief of one of Eastern Union Alliance’s units.”

Mark dwelled in his thoughts. He recalled that Hansel was staring rather long at her. Mark remembered her face albeit he did not get a good look at her and merely took a quick glance.

“What’s up with her?” Lyla interrupted with a question.

She was unable to make heads or tails from the father and son’s exchange.

“I saw a woman over at Felix’s when Daddy and I went to look for Felix. She seemed a little flustered when she saw me but it happened for an instant.”

“So, you found it strange?” Mark probed.

Hansel gave a nod. “It was because of the disinfectant smell on her in the beginning and later because of her nervous eyes. I wouldn’t have paid her any attention otherwise.”

“Are you saying that...” Lyla had butterflies in her stomach as she looked at him.

“Mummy, don’t get stirred up. Everything is still unknown. I mean, why did she look at me all nervous? We don’t know about that. We still need to look into it before we can be sure,” Hansel answered. He did not want to give Lyla too much hope. The bigger the hope, the harder the fall.

Lyla knew where he was coming from but she trusted her instincts as a woman more.

“I understand. In that case, I should head straight to Felix to ask.” With that, Lyla got up to leave.
