Chapter 237 Dark Past marks a crucial moment in Internet’s Romance novel, Rotten Twins: Making a CEO a Daddy. This chapter blends tension, emotion, and plot progression to deliver a memorable reading experience — one that keeps readers eagerly turning the page.

Mark came up after Shadow was gone. He placed one hand on her shoulder. “What’s wrong?”

Lyla shook her head. “Nothing.”

“Let’s go in.”

Lyla nodded.

Lingo had to disguise herself because Lola was here. Otherwise, she would be recognized. Most importantly, being recognized was not so much a problem but dragging Hansel into it was a huge deal.

They must be kept safe before they can defend themselves.

Lingo kept watch over Lola.

Lyla entered the room to observe Lola pale in the face and without an ounce of strength. She was different from the last time Lyla saw her.

With Lyla coming in, Lola lifted her eyes to look at her with hatred.

Lyla wanted to move closer but was held back by Mark. He shook his head. “Although she’s tied, she still has the ability to poison us by surprise. We should keep our distance.”

Lyla nodded before turning to Lola. “Speak. What does it take for you to save Gretel?”

Lola curled her lips into a smile. “Don’t waste your breath. I will never save her.”

“Why?”

“There’s no why. Why would I save since I was the one who did this to her?” Lola enunciated clearly.

“I know that you’re not the one who kidnapped Gretel. You only use her for your experiments. I can promise to let you go if you agree to save Gretel.” Lyla told her.

Lola let out a sarcastic grin. “Do you think I’m a three-year-old?”

“I keep to my word.”

“Even if you’re willing to let me go, I won’t walk out of here alive. So, don’t bother.”

“It appears that you have prepared yourself to die.”

Without a word, Lola averted her gaze elsewhere.

Lyla refused to give up. “What would it cost for you to save her?”

“Her anatomy is one in a million. I plan to move ahead but turn back,” Lola threw a snarky remark.

“But your plan is on hold,” Lyla said. “You have to be alive to follow through with your plan. You’d have nothing if you’re dead.”

Hearing this, Lola turned over and fixated on her. “Do you think she’d still be alive if I’m dead?”

Lyla was dumbstruck. “What do you mean?”

“I had already injected the chemical into her body when I was preparing to transfer her. Two weeks. You’ll find out in two weeks.” Lola chuckled. Her eyes spoke of wickedness.

Lyla’s eyes widened. In other words, Gretel only had two weeks left to live. They did not know what was going to happen after two weeks.

With that in mind, she could no longer restrain the madness within. Lyla bolted over and grabbed Lola. “What do you mean? What’s the meaning of this? What did you do to her?

“Why must you do that? She never crossed paths with you. She’s only a child. How can you be so cruel!” Holding onto her clothes, Lyla shook her and shouted as though she was in the depths of despair.

Mark quickly came forth to pull her away.

“Why! Why must you do this!” Lyla kept yelling.

“If you want to blame something, you can just blame her bad luck,” Lola nonchalantly commented.

Lyla wanted nothing more than to kill her. “Why? She’s only a child, a little girl. How could you have the heart to do this to her?”

Having observed the situation, Hansel picked up a gun and advanced forward.

“Hansel!” Lingo cried. Hansel took the gun and pointed it at Lola. His hands were shaking and his eyes were red but he never pulled the trigger.

It was not that he did not have the guts but he simply could not.

There was still a glimmer of hope as long as she was still alive.

Lola looked at him with an unconcerned look on her face. “Shoot me. Come on, why can’t you fire?”

“You wish to die? I won’t let you have your wish. I’d make you wish you’re dead.”

Lola gave an unruffled smile. “I’ll be waiting.”

“Lyla, everyone has their weakness living on this earth. I trust that you’d get down on your knees and beg me.” With that, Hansel turned and sprinted out.

He must locate Lola’s weakness. He must.

Only by doing so, he could save Gretel.

Hansel returned to his room and turned on the computer to begin his search.

……

Pulling Lyla back, Mark whispered in her ear, “Don’t get beaten down by her words. Gretel needs us now. Believe in Hansel. He will find a way.”

Lyla stared at Lola. She had never hated someone so much before, including Kathleen who had hurt her countless times. She only thought Kathleen was pitiful but never once hated her.

Yet now, she hated Lola.

With all her might.

Lyla would not hesitate to kill her if anything happened to Gretel, even though it never occurred to her that she would one day have blood on her hands.

She would do it.

Lola sat on the ground while looking at them. Her golden eyes alighted with a slight hint of bitterness.

The bitterness was not because of Lyla, rather Hansel.

The words he said earlier...

She closed her eyes, praying in her heart that he would never find out.

……

With Gretel lying in bed, Lyla spent most of her time by her.

Mark and the rest did not do anything to Lola. It was not that they did not want to but leaving Lola barely alive before they found proof would only delay saving Gretel.

Hence, they only had to uncover the thing Lola feared the most.

Mark and Hansel worked full force to find out about Lola but they only came across inconsequential details that carried no weight.

All of Hell’s Angels members, including the leaders, were on the investigation. Just when they thought all hope was lost, Orpheus stumbled upon something.

Hansel, “...”

He was hit with the realization of the reason why Daddy spoke so slow.

That explained it.

Nonetheless, Hansel actually took sympathy for Lola.

“Mike completely lost it and was killed trying to protect the woman. Lola was on the verge of death when Felix emerged to come to her rescue.

“I had heard about this and it was quite a commotion then but I didn’t know the woman was Lola.”

“Who knew she went through hell?” Hansel commented.

“If my guess is right, Lola is not doing this to help Felix, she actually wants to...”

“Take revenge, am I right?” Hansel enquired.

Mark gave a nod.

“She was helping Felix to unify Rome in name when in fact, she was doing this for revenge.”

“No wonder she would rather die than save Gretel. She would have to heed Felix’s orders if it was to unify Rome. It seems that she is really out for blood.”

“It will be tougher if it’s an act of vengeance. Lola will not relent. She’s not afraid of death because that was her wish then. We have nothing against her.”

“If death is not enough to persuade her, there is one more thing we can threaten her with.”

“Such as?”

“Mike.”

“But he’s dead.”

“His grave should be around.”

“You’re thinking of...”

“I’m not thinking of doing anything. I only want to use this as a means of threat. I’m not that despicable to lay my hands on a dead person. Only, I don’t mind being the bad guy,” Hansel uttered.

Mark learned something new about Hansel once again. Getting up, he spoke, “I’ll handle this. You’re still young. She won’t believe you.”

After much thought, Hansel nodded in looking at the bigger picture.

“The priority now is to find Mike’s grave.”

“This is easy. If Lola truly loved him, she would visit his grave every year. We’d be able to get a clue if we follow her tracks.”

“Great, I’ll leave this to you. We’d meet with her once we find that out.”

Hansel nodded.

Call him despicable or shameless but it was every man for himself.

Moreover, Gretel was most innocent of it all. Lola had no right to take Gretel’s life because of her selfish desire. This was most unfair.

He must succeed at any cost!

Hansel secretly hoped that this was Lola’s weakness.
