(Let Me Go, My Alpha Husband) Chapter 2

For the following days, Grant remained absent, and I made no inquiry.
Silently, I contacted my friends to retrieve the wedding invitations, the scent of
impending nuptials now a sickening reminder of his betrayal.
Grant had favored a small gathering, inviting only those closest to us. They
were shocked by my actions.
“Why cancel the union? You two seemed…bonded,” they questioned, their
voices laced with disbelief.
I found myself unable to articulate the truth. Bonded? If his perpetual
coldness was considered a bond, then so be it.
The only bond had been my unwavering devotion.
Finally, I confessed. “I have found a new mate.”

His first words mirrored my actions. “Retrieve those invitations. My mentor
has passed. In his honor, I cannot wed for six moon–turns.”
He anticipated my outrage, my desperate pleas. He knew my eagerness, my
grandfather’s yearning to witness the union. He’d planned a way to persuade me,
but I was surprisingly calm. A cold detachment had settled over me.
“Very well. I offer condolences for your loss.”
Grant was taken aback. This was not the reaction he expected. Since that
night, I seemed…different. Although he found me unsettling, he lacked the
energy to question why. He rubbed his weary eyes.
“His memorial is this day. He spoke of you before his passing. I shall take you
there.”
I held no fondness for Wanda, but I respected her father. A kind professor,
he would have surely disapproved of his daughter’s actions. I nodded, agreeing to
- go.
Grant cleaned himself, donned fresh clothes, and escorted me to the
memorial service.
