"Then, do you like her?" Pamela turned to look at Jessica and asked her.

"No." Jessica shook her head.

"Like her? Even if I was a guy, I won't like a woman like her. Leah's eyes show that she's full of schemes and plots. I'll get tired just by looking at her," she thought.

"If Mr. Gulliford marries someone else, I'll concede defeat. However, I'm unwilling to do so if he marries her! I can tell that she's a capricious lady at first glance. How is she a good fit for our chairman?" Pamela exclaimed angrily. Her lips curled up significantly.

"Pamela, I'm a little drunk. I'll go and have a rest."

Jessica did not want to hear any more about Trevor. She wanted to find a quiet and deserted place to snap out of her alcohol-induced stupor.

"Okay. Be careful! Don't get yourself into trouble. Although this is a company event, there are all kinds of people present in a huge gathering like this. It's best if you proceed with caution."

"Don't worry. I'll give you a call if anything happens."

Jessica took out her phone and waved it about. She motioned to Pamela not to worry, then turned around and left.

The island was neither very small nor very big. She turned to walk to the other side of the island.

Everyone congregated at one side of the island. The light on the other side was relatively scarce, and there were not many people there. It was a perfect place for her to shake off her intoxication.

When she left the bustling crowd, the coldness of the sea breeze multiplied manyfold.

She shuddered and stood under a coconut tree as she fished out the cigarette that she had hidden in her pocket.

She had never dared to smoke in front of Yolanda and her other children. However, when she was alone, she would secretly smoke a cigarette.

She did not like the feeling of smoking but grew addicted to the taste of it.

The faint smell of the tobacco could help her forget

everything momentarily and left her intoxicated in the smell. She was unable to extricate herself from it.

Whoosh...

Whoosh!

The waves beat against the shore quickly, and the moon in the sky appeared very round.

When she was younger, her mother and grandmother would personally cook stuffed turkey for her on Thanksgiving. However, they were no longer alive.

She loved to pretend to be profound when she was younger. Yet, now that she had experienced many things, she started hating profoundness.

Youths did not know the bitter taste of life and loved to feign maturity and profoundness. They enjoyed coming up with new terms to express what they thought was sorrow.

"I have no opinion. Candor Union Company's operations are more mature than Brightside Union Company's," Jessica responded emotionlessly.

She looked at the grains of sand under her feet and cast quick glances at Trevor's black formal suit from time to time. There was an uncomfortable emotion in her heart.

It felt like a sour and bitter pill.

"Yes," Trevor replied.

Before they knew it, they had arrived in front of the crowd as they conversed.

Everyone stared as Trevor walked alongside his secretary. The sound of murmurs swelled.

Pamela stood in the crowd and stealthily motioned a thumbs-up sign to Jessica.

Jessica felt anxious and exasperated.

"What is she doing? It's not what she thinks," Jessica thought.

She trailed after Trevor and sat in the front row of the audience. They were merely there to watch a program, and there was nothing very important happening.

A moment later, she lowered her guard and wanted to take another glass of whiskey. Just as she was about to do so, the person in front of her snatched it away from her.
