Lizetta's lips quivered, her face pale as a sheet.

Indeed, what was the point of holding on or waiting any longer? Each minute of the past two days’ waiting stretched out endlessly.

Before dusk, she still harbored hope. Remington had promised he'd return, so maybe he'd appear in the yard any second now.

He'd rush over, envelop her in his arms, and apologize, saying, "Sorry, I'm late." But the night had fallen, well past the time he'd promised to return.

In this age of instant communication, it wasn't possible that something had happened to Remington. The CEO of the Starlight Group wouldn't just have some accident without anyone noticing.

Just as Lizetta was about to say “alright”, her phone, silent till then, suddenly lit up. It was the special ringtone she had set for Remington.

Lizetta froze. She slowly looked down, and upon seeing "Hubby" flashing on the screen, she could scarcely believe her eyes.

Why now? Why was he calling at this moment? She hesitated to answer.

"Pick it up! Ask that jerk when he's gonna get back and beg for forgiveness!" Yolanda urged, nudging Lizetta, who snapped out of her daze. Her fingers trembled as she slid to answer the call.

"Liz, I'm sorry; I couldn't make it back as planned. I saw you called. You must be worried, right?" Remington's voice, mixed with the sound of wind, reached Lizetta's ears. It felt surreal.

Noticing her silence, he paused, "Liz? Are you there?"

Lizetta moved her lips, "Yes."

His usually calm and collected tone was replaced with urgency and slight panic. But his explanation did little to soothe Lizetta.

Hearing the storm raging on his end, she took a deep breath and said, holding back her frustration, "You don’t need to rush. The weather sounds bad there. Just stay safe."

"Worried about me?" A hint of relief laced Remington's voice, accompanied by a light chuckle.

His laughter, however, only fueled Lizetta's pent-up exasperation. She snapped, "I just can't bear the thought of something happening to you on your way back. Besides, a wedding isn’t something you rush. It's meaningless this way. Let's just cancel it. I don’t want to…"

"Lizetta! I told you, I’ll be there tomorrow. The wedding must go on as planned!"

It was unclear whether Remington was angry or simply didn't want to hear any more talk of canceling the wedding.
