Samuel paused, his eyes falling on the knife he'd dropped earlier. The sight of it made his chest tighten.

He was lucky—there was still a way out for him.

Sometimes, life smacks you awake in the most unexpected ways. Tonight, Diana had done just that for him.

"I'm sorry," he muttered under his breath. He bent down, picked up the knife, and left the villa.

Downstairs, Luna watched him closely, making sure he left before signaling to Nick to shadow him. Only then did she head back upstairs to check on Diana.

She pushed the door open, concern etched on her face. "Diana, are you okay?"

Diana smiled faintly. "I'm fine. A little persuasion saved his life—and mine."

Luna huffed in frustration. "Diana, you're too forgiving! People like him don't deserve your mercy. He should've been arrested for attempted murder—he'd be locked away for years!"

Diana chuckled softly, her tone calm. "Luna, sometimes kindness works better. He was just Queenie's pawn. She destroys; I save. Maybe shifting that balance will change things for me this time."

The thought left Diana feeling oddly at peace.

Luna frowned, clearly puzzled.

"Well, Diana, time for you to rest. We've got an early start tomorrow. I've arranged for the team to take Mr. Harrison and the others to the lab. Tom has everything prepared and will handle the project presentation.

"He's thrilled about it. This project's been sitting for years, and he's been pretty vocal about his frustration with you," Luna teased.

Diana laughed lightly. "My three years off weren't entirely unproductive."

She lay back down and added, "Go on, Luna. Get some rest."

Luna grinned, her mood lifting. "Finally, Samuel Farley is someone else's problem. Goodnight, Diana!"

"Don't forget to close the door," Diana called after her.

Once Luna was gone, Diana exhaled deeply, letting her guard down. Soon, she drifted into a much-needed sleep.

Samuel spent the night kneeling in the snow outside his family's estate, unable to find peace.

Early the next morning, Cecil stepped outside, ready to visit Diana, when he saw Samuel kneeling by the gate.

Snow had blanketed Samuel's shoulders, frost clinging to his hair and eyelashes. His lips were blue, his face pale as death.

"Samuel, have you completely lost it? What are you doing kneeling out here at this hour? New Year's is right around the corner, and I'm not about to drag your frozen corpse up a mountain!"

Samuel, having just returned from Jace Foliot's hospital room, now fully understood how dangerous Queenie was.

She had single-handedly destroyed the Foliot family, throwing both of Jace's sons in prison overnight.

"Cecil... I'm sorry. I was wrong. I see that now. I'll never fight you again. I want to work with you, to build something good together."

Samuel's voice was weak, his words trembling with the cold.

Cecil stared at him, frowning. "Come on in before you talk."

Samuel had no strength left in his legs—he had to drag himself inside.

That scene stunned Cecil.

Cecil arched a brow, finding it hard to believe this was happening.
