Alice saw the tension in Jack’s face and smiled.“Go ahead, say it.”

Just then, the foundation’s director approached.“There are still some things that need your 

attention.” 

“I’ll be right there.” 

Alice looked at Jack.“Say it now, or wait until I’m finished?” 

She saw his hesitation, sensing it was something difficult to say. Maybe it was something prompted by his brother? 

Jack sighed in frustration.“Go ahead.” 

Alice nodded and followed the director.

himself?”

Chloe was consumed by despair. If the Garretts found out, she was finished. Garrett still had
