“Impossible! Chloe said she only likes me! How could she get engaged to someone else?!” His expression betrayed his thoughts. 

“Ask her.” Alice left, ignoring Garrett’s reaction. She hadn’t expected Chloe to be two–timing. Alice had planned to use Chloe’s embezzlement to find her father, but the expired napkins disrupted her plan. She couldn’t compromise and let Chloe stay at the foundation; it would arouse suspicion. She needed another plan. 

If Garrett found out, he’d likely break up with Chloe, leaving her with fewer people to rely on.
