“Alice, we’ve only been together for a short time. How do you know we’re not suitable?” Jack was angry.“Or did you find someone else? Is that why your 

you want to break up?” Alice slapped his hand away. “Think whatever you want. Didn’t you say there are many handsome guys my age at university, that I’d start a new life? You were right. I get along better with my 

peers. 

“Alice!” Jack’s eyes were dark and stormy. “That’s just anger talking.”

He leaned in to kiss her; Alice turned her head, but she was no match for his strength. He held her close; the kiss was forceful and aggressive. Alice felt enraged; what was she to him? She bit him and slapped him. 

Jack, you have a fiancée! Why did you get involved with me?” 

He was stunned.“I don’t have a fiancée.” 

“No fiancée? The headlines said you and Miss Garcia are getting married! How long are your going to lie? Alice said, “You’re the Tremaine heir, right?”

“How can I believe you?” Alice looked at him calmly, heartbroken.“I never doubted

“Alice, it’s not like that. I didn’t mean to hide my identity.” 

“Why then?” Alice wanted to know the reason. 

Jack looked at her; he couldn’t bring himself to mention the car accident. Alice had said she hated the perpetrator and the person in the backseat. He felt a deep pain. 

His grandmother was right; he should have told her earlier. He couldn’t say it now; he didn’t want to lose her. He was stuck. 

Alice said, “Tell me why.” 

He fell silent. Alice, with a self–deprecating look, guessed the reason: they were from different social circles; that’s why he’d hidden his identity. What was their relationship then?
