Alice’s face was flushed. His message: [I don’t agree to the breakup. I’ll keep waiting.] 

Alice exited the chat, looking out the window. Her hard–won peace was shattered. She’d thought Huo Xiucheng had hidden his identity and wasn’t sincere. But he’d publicly denied the engagement with Julia. Alice saw Julia burst into tears. 

“Lana Parker said, “Alice, what’s going on between you and your boyfriend… ex–boyfriend?” 

“It’s complicated.” 

“But I think he still likes you. You didn’t see the way he looked at you- like a lost puppy, begging for your attention.” Lana Parker thought that if it were her, she couldn’t stay mad at such a handsome man. 

Alice’s face flushed. “Don’t talk nonsense. I haven’t decided what to do.” Jack and his mother had clarified the engagement rumor. She’d been tricked by Julia. But she was still angry about Jack hiding his identity; it felt like a betrayal. 

Lana Parker linked arms with Alice.“Ignore him for a while. Let him feel the pain of longing. Teach him a lesson.” 

“You’re right. I was always chasing him.” This time, Alice wanted him to pursue her. “Besides, there are plenty of good guys. Many have asked if you’re single. I’ll spread the word; you’ll have plenty of suitors. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” 

Alice felt better.“You’re right.” She wasn’t sure about her feelings, but she had a lot to do and couldn’t let one man derail her. 

Wang Yang, in the passenger seat, glanced at the rearview mirror, a plan forming. After Alice’s car left, Jack looked away. Julia said stubbornly, “You heard everything I said.”

The leader left. Lana Parker asked, “Did the leader scold you? Everyone saw what happened last night. A senior said it was even worse before.” 

Alice looked around.“I don’t care what happened before. As long as I’m captain, I won’t let you attend those dinners.” 

Lana Parker applauded.“Great! Captain, you’re awesome!”

“No, I have something to do.” Alice was going to a meeting at Maple Leaf. Wang Yang hesitated. “Let’s
