Chapter 81 

Noah was frustrated. He’d orchestrated everything to appease Alice, only to have Chloe steal the spotlight. Even though it was a misunderstanding, he felt uneasy. Why did Chloe always appear whenever he tried to reconcile with Alice, ruining everything? 

Chloe, with teary eyes, said to Alice, “Alice, I didn’t mean to. I thought you were deliberately hiding your identity to better blend in at the company.” 

Alice smirked. The white lotus’s mind worked quickly. No wonder she’d been so successful in her past life. 

The team lead, seeing Chloe cry, chimed in, “Mr. Windham, this isn’t Miss Chloe’s fault. Miss Alice could have revealed her identity, but she didn’t. Whose fault is that?” He imagined himself looking heroic, perhaps winning Chloe’s heart. 

Noah’s gaze turned cold. “You’re the one who hit my sister yesterday, aren’t you?” The team lead’s face paled.“She hit me first.” 

“Because you said offensive things. You’re fired.” 

The team lead panicked. This wasn’t going as planned. He looked at Chloe for help. Chloe said, “Second brother, he just fixed the firewall. We shouldn’t fire him.” 

Noah was surprised.“Didn’t Alice fix it?” 

The manager explained, “Miss Alice said her code was stolen.” He knew Alice had been involved from the start and likely possessed the skill. The team lead hadn’t solved the issue in months; how could he have suddenly cracked it? 

The team lead denied it.“I didn’t steal it. I wrote it myself.” 

Chloe added, “Alice said someone stole her code. She needs proof.” Without proof, Alice wouldn’t prevail. 

Noah looked at Alice, doubtful.“Alice, are you sure it was him?” 

Alice’s gaze was mocking.“Yes!” 

Secretary Davis said, “Check the security footage.” 

“Right, the footage!” 

The manager returned dejectedly.“The lobby cameras were broken. The footage from the few days is gone.” 

Chloe looked pleased. She knew that would happen. 

She feigned concern.“What do we do?”

The team lead smugly said, “Without proof, who can prove anything? Just because you’re the heiress doesn’t mean you can sWindham people.” 

Chloe smiled, looking worried at Noah.“Second Brother, Alice wanted to help you solve this problem. We know she tried, but we shouldn’t take her credit.” 

Noah was conflicted and agitated. He tugged at his tie.“Secretary Davis, find other evidence.” 

“There is evidence!” 

Alice pulled out her phone, showing the security footage from last night. It clearly showed the

team lead accessing her computer, copying files, and tampering with her code. Noah slapped the team lead angrily.“You dared to tamper with my sister’s work? Are you looking to die?” 

“I… I didn’t…” The team lead was stunned. He’d deleted the footage; how was there evidence? Chloe noticed something was wrong. Alice had the footage; why hadn’t she shown it earlier? It 

was a trap. 

Chloe supported the team lead, her eyes filled with distress.“How could you do this? I trusted you!” 

The team lead, smelling Chloe’s perfume, felt his senses melt. He spun a tale.“It was me. I just didn’t like her arrogance. No one else was involved.” He couldn’t betray Chloe. He claimed Alice had acted out of spite, due to Chloe’s supposed arrogance. 

Chloe was relieved; she couldn’t be exposed. 

She looked at Alice, feigning remorse.“Alice, I shouldn’t have doubted you. I’m sorry.” 

Alice sneered.“You should apologize.” 

Chloe’s face stiffened; fear flickered in her eyes. The team lead, ever the white knight, said, “Miss Chloe’s doubt was understandable. Alice didn’t show any proof!” 

Everyone was shocked. The manager yelled, “You stole the heiress’s code and you dare speak up?!”
