Alice slammed her chopsticks down, her face cold. She turned to Noah.“I’m stating a fact.” “Severing ties is a serious matter. You can’t just decide that on a whim! I never agreed.” Noah was angry now.“I’ve been trying to appease you. You should be grateful. Outside the Windham family, you’re nothing.” 

The mockery in Alice’s eyes intensified. He’d lost his patience and dropped the act. 

Andrew Yates intervened.“Mr. Noah, Alice is not ‘nothing‘ outside the Windham family. You begged her for help, didn’t you?” 

Jack said coldly, “Without Alice,

Noah felt humiliated.“Without me, a young girl like Alice wouldn’t have had this opportunity. It’s impossible.” Many were talented; not everyone got such opportunities. He’d given Alice this 

chance. 

Andrew Yates said directly, “Alice, Maple Leaf Company’s doors are always open to you.” 

Alice nodded.“Okay.” 

“Alice, think carefully. Other companies aren’t as simple as you think. I protected you, ensuring your success.” 

Alice looked at him coldly.“I don’t need your protection. If you don’t like it, leave.” Noah was stunned but didn’t leave. He looked at Jack.“Alice and the family had some conflicts. Thank you for taking care of her. I’ll remember this.” 

“No need for thanks.” Jack poured himself a glass of wine. He wasn’t a big drinker, but he felt a need for it now. He glanced at Alice–serene, her long hair cascading down her shoulders, her skin pale and flawless. He quickly looked away, 

away, feeling inexplicably agitated. The dinner ended quietly. Except for the main group, no one dared speak, let alone persuade anyone to drink.

“Alice, come home with me.” Noah looked at her earnestly.“I promise I’ll be different.” Alice caught sight of Jack approaching–tall, his gait steady and confident. Her heartbeat quickened. 

Andrew Yates pulled up.“Alice, let’s go.”

Alice went towards Andrew Yates’s car. Noah was desperate.“Alice…” 

Jack blocked Noah’s path, his expression cold.“Perhaps you should learn to respect her choices.” “I don’t trust her living alone! And you, a mysterious man, are so kind to her. You’re the most suspicious!” Noah’s face was grim. 

Jack’s eyes were icy.“She’d rather be with a ‘mysterious‘ man than return home. Shouldn’t you reflect on that?” 

He walked towards Andrew Yates’s car, sitting in the passenger seat. Alice sat in the back, looking at Noah.“I’m fine on my own.” 

“Alice, I…” Noah coughed, blood staining his hands. 

Alice’s lips tightened. “You shouldn’t have been drinking.” 

“Alice, Second Brother…” Noah collapsed. 

Alice rushed out.“Second Brother, are you okay?” 

Secretary Davis ran over, worried.“Miss Alice, the boss hasn’t been receiving treatment. He insisted on leaving the hospital knowing you were going to the branch company. His condition is 

serious.” 

Alice was frustrated.“Then he should go to the hospital!” She hadn’t asked him to leave. “I couldn’t persuade him. Miss Alice, please persuade him at the hospital.” 

Secretary Davis got the driver to help Noah into a car and pleaded with Alice.“Miss Alice, let’s go to the hospital.” 

Alice stood still.“I’m not a doctor. It’s useless.” 

Andrew Yates saw the blood.“Shall we all go and take a look?” 

Alice nodded.“Thank you.” 

“No problem. Let’s go.” Andrew Yates saw her hesitation; it was her brother. If he was seriously ill, she should see him. 

In the car, Alice was silent. Jack looked at her.“Don’t feel guilty. His illness isn’t your fault.”
